David D Gill of General Telephone announces a free teletrainer teaching basic telephone use to elementary lower grades special education groups and the educable mentally handicapped. Schools can reserve via the Chillicothe business office. advance booking avoids denial of access.
A three match pro wrestling card sponsored by the Granville Rotary Club is announced for Friday September 17 at Putnam County High School. Featured bouts include Rodeo Jones of Denver versus Joe Scartello of Omaha, Bill Robinson of England versus Lars Anderson of Saint Cloud, and Anderson with Henning against Robinson and Maracco. Tickets are sold at local outlets with box office sales night of event.
The Henry Grade School Board of Education met September 13, 1971, approved August minutes, paid bills and payroll, and set levies for Education, Building, Transportation, Bond & Interest, Municipal Ret. and Working Cash funds. They denied more equipment for the lounge, planned a language workshop, offered teacher credit toward increments, and asked Mr Berger to secure bids for a large chest type deepfreeze.
A Henry Illinois note from Civil Defense Director Larry Pierson urges replacing the term Civil Defense with Agency for Citizens Emergencies ACE. The message praises volunteers, emphasizes emergency help, disaster response, and community involvement to bolster city safety.

A giant potato grown in Henry county sits on the News Republican counter this week. It weighs about one and a quarter pounds and measures nearly seven inches long with a smooth surface and 26 eyes. Raised by Frank Martin, it was brought into the office by C O Read.
The Pollution Control board adopted open burning rules Sept 2 prohibiting leaf fires in all Illinois incorporated municipalities and within one mile of any municipality. Residents outside that radius may burn leaves only if they live more than a mile from any city or village.
The Henry Rotary picnic is scheduled for Monday September 20 at 6 30 pm. Rev and Mrs Marshall Simpson will host and hostesses, with Rotary Annes as guests of their husbands. Picnic attire is encouraged and couples should bring lawn chairs.
A truck load of marines will land in Henry this Saturday to establish a four county recruitment center in the Davis building on Edward Street. Lon Sturz of Peru will head the office, with Jerry Crutchfield assisting from LaSalle. The center opens next Tuesday September 21 with hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and invites former marines to visit for coffee.
Henry officials announce a bicycle safety campaign with films for grades three to eight and Saturday on street help sessions through October. Council approves mercury light at Rt 18 and Front St near the bridge and schedules traffic checks at Rt 29 and Rt 18 intersections as part of city safety measures.
In mid August St Margaret's Hospital contracted Physicians-On-Call of Lombard Illinois to staff the weekend emergency room from noon Saturday to midnight Sunday. The move aims to speed patient attention during weekend hours and relieve staff tensions while maintaining regular weekday coverage by regular physicians.

Louis B Alleman 75 of 205 Alice Ave Oglesby, president of Henry Milk Products and Supreme Dairy, was found fatally shot at his office in LaSalle County. He led conservation projects including Big Bend of the Vermilion River and deeded land to the Nature Conservancy and LaSalle County Conservation District. Survived by his wife Edna, three sons, a daughter, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral cremation requested with ashes scattered over Big Bend.
