Injured Hillam and McAllister Die in Separate Accidents
In separate Sunday night crashes on Route 71 near Henry County, Richard Hillam 29 and Tam McAllister were killed or seriously injured. Hillam died instantly after his car left the road and plunged down an embankment. McAllister, driving a Ford, lost control on mud and rolled over, pinning him in the vehicle. both were taken to Memorial Hospital. Memorial services were held at St. Episcopal Church with burial at Henry Cemetery. Surviving family members listed include siblings and relatives in Henry and nearby towns.

Head On Crash Occurs In Henry Friday Night
A two car collision occurred about 11:30 p m Friday at the corner of South Street and Route 18 in Henry. Shirley Appel 18 and her sister Patricia 15 were injured. Shirley was treated and released while Patricia required plastic surgery and hospitalization. Beverly Haun 19 and Dianna Cain 16 were uninjured. Cars towed to Sefton Garage. State Trooper Joe Roberts investigated.

Council Discusses Subdivision Water Systems and Pool Report
The city council met September 12 at City Hall with all aldermen, Treasurer Lewis Campbell, City Attorney John Wosik, and Mayor Joseph Magelli present. They debated Sefton subdivision sidewalks, water mains, and pipe types with Beeling Water Engineers guidance. The council agreed to follow engineers on pipe type. developers may choose if given that authority. Gale Warner reported summer pool costs totaling 821.79, down from 1248.27 last year, and bike racks costing 382.50. Henry pool earned a double A rating from Public Health, improving from last year. The council accepted Kriefing Roofing’s 291.00 bid for city hall roof repairs amid bids from Peoria Roofing and others. City building commissioner Frank Hammel noted growing zoning awareness. Magelli reappointed Leonard Ries and Bud Morris to another term on the zoning planning committee. James Francis will replace Gene Kaliher.

Cement Pour Underway at Hennepin Plant Despite Rain
Jones and Laughlin Steel pours cement at the Hennepin plant this morning starting 6 30 am. The 2400 cubic yards will take 12 hours at 200 cubic yards per hour. This is the second and largest pour of three for the five stand tandem mill foundation. Reinforcing rods are manufactured at the J and L Pittsburgh plant.
