The district elimination audition gathers contestants from Whiteside Marshall LaSalle Bureau Putnam Henry Mercer and Rock Island counties to select one man and one woman ages 18 to 25 for the state audition in Chicago in October. Local winners advance to state, then semi finals in Chicago in November and finals in New York City in December with a 25000 cash award and a conservatory scholarship. Miss Ethel Brazelton directs the district event at Sterling this month and entries are filed with her.

Florid Man Injured in Granville McNabb Road Truck Crash
Ferdinand Krafft of Florid was hospitalized after a Wednesday crash on Route 89 south of Granville. His Ford truck collided with Ricardo Bonucchi’s Standard truck. Krafft suffered facial injuries while Pete Clemens of Siang and Bonucchi occupants escaped with minor hurts. Wilbut Sutherland and Leitschup aided Krafft to the hospital. Bonucchi’s truck was towed to Standard.

William York former Henry boy passes away at 57
William York, former Henry boy and only son of Captain Sol York, died in a Peoria hospital aged 57 years, 9 months, 19 days. He leaves a sister and his father, both of Minneapolis. Remains arrived in Henry for interment. Memorial services were held Wednesday at Weber & Green parlors with a Peoria minister officiating. Interment followed in Henry cemetery, in charge of the local K P lodge.

Sparland Lad Badly Injured In Truck Accident
Donald Baldwin a 14 year old Sparland resident and water boy for the road crew was run over when he slipped while jumping from a moving truck. He sustained a broken arm above the elbow bruised back and possible internal injuries. He was taken to Proctor hospital in Peoria. his condition was described as serious but stable.
