Whitefield farmers plant sweet corn for canning
In Whitefield Township west of Henry, three farmers Paul Bogner Leo Schubert and Willis Shearer planted sweet corn under the AAA program as a non depleting crop to aid defense. The corn was harvested and shipped to the Princeville cannery at around 16 dollars per ton with labor costs and long hauls reducing net returns. Nearby La Prairie and Prairie Townships have grown corn closer to Princeville for years and receive husks and cobs for cattle feed.

Orrin Turner a pro motor and Turner trucking firm member amasses a vast collection of old vehicle name plates from buggies carriages and cars over three years. He has about a thousand plates dating to early manufacturers and notes few collectors exist.
