The Henry Artificial Ice Company will cease operations as of October 1. Willis Harris has operated the plant for four years, leasing from Curt Lucas who started the business in 1922 with the late John Fehring. Since February 22, 1922 Henry Ice has supplied artificial ice, with the first cake moved to the lamp post in front of what is now Henry State. The firm’s product was in demand then as now, and before artificial ice the river froze in winter to store ice for summer use. The opening of the company was seen as a major event at the time.
