Henry city council schedules a special Friday meeting to vote on an ordinance for a special election. The vote will decide whether to accept a $20 250 PWA grant toward a 445 000 city hall library and community center with the city to cover 55 percent via a bond issue.
Alexand er Tozier Hunter known as Jack and active in Henry City affairs dies of coronary thrombosis at his Second Street apartment. He served as alderman since spring 1937 and led Henry American Legion posts. funeral at Henry Methodist Church with city council as casket bearers. survived by widow, brother, uncle, aunt, and relatives.

St Marys Parochial grade school opened Tuesday with 76 students, while Henry Township High School enrolled 145. 4-H members expected to add at least 12 more after Marshall Putnam Fair. Seniors 33, juniors 36, sophomores 86, freshmen 40.
The Marshall County Board of Review finished its session on September 6 after adjusting personal property assessments. They raised the county’s personal property valuation by 226,936, adding 3,404 to the next year’s tax money. Real estate assessments remain unchanged until 1989.
Opal and Lois Wabel of Henry won first prize in a DePue contest Saturday evening in a lakefront outdoor show. Twenty five or more entries competed with guitar songs tap dances and other acts for a $20 prize donated by Lasalle Vera DePue business people and Gun Club members.
The Marshall Putnam Fair hosts a record 4-H Club Show with growth to 160 boys and girls, 160 beef calves and heifers, 30 dairy calves, 98 cattle vs 60 last year, 160 pigs vs 100, and 200+ chickens. Judging of pigs beef poultry and beautification is complete. dairy sheep and colt classes finish today. winners announced for multiple groups and calves.

Speed program at Marshall Putnam Fair drew large crowds on Tuesday and Wednesday with top horses in 2:24 pace and 2:18 ties. O K and Edna McSilk led the pace heats, purse $300. Senator the Third swept three heats in the 2:18 trot, purse $300. Milady and Major Kay shined in 2-year-old trots, track record rumored. Dark Rascal won the 10 mile dash and Brilliant Dee topped the %-mile dash. Supervisors: Ben McAllister, Clinton Haws, George A. Burt.
St Johns Episcopal Church members and guests enjoyed a Thursday picnic at Waterworks Park. Father Franklin the guest of honor had recently resigned as rector of St Johns in Henry and St Jude s in Tiskilwa. Sixty five attended a 6 30 dinner planned by committee members A E Ertle T C Waterous Mrs Lee Wright and Mrs John H Wagner.
The Marshall Putnam Fair is described as bigger and better, with larger exhibits and strong farm machinery displays. Labor Day drew large crowds for the WLS Barn Dance, Otto’s humor, and a successful fair. Rain affected attendance briefly, but record crowds are expected for harness races and the MP derby. Society Horse Show promises high quality entries from notable stables and farms.
Ace Lillard and five drivers will perform death-defying stunts at the Marshall Putnam Fair closing show with a preview in the afternoon. Ace’s wife Babe Lillard, the only all around lady stunt driver in the United States, will feature by crashing through a flaming wall. A 15 minute safety lecture will accompany the act, noting their emphasis on driving safely after years of wrecking nearly four hundred autos.
Miss Lucille Konrad of Henry and Eddy Simmons of Peoria star as The Twirling Tops at the Marshall Putnam Fair. The skating duo perform dangerous feats including blindfolded sweater exchange and neck suspension in swivel, drawing comparisons to Sonja Henie.
