Local column notes Henry Grey's Henry Grey baseball team scheduled to play at Princeville today. Several residents travel and visit relatives in nearby towns. Ed Hennessey and family, Gregory Roth and Perry family spend time with relatives in Henry area.
Theod orest Rott and wife mark their silver wedding with a high mass at St Josephs church Friday morning. The couple will honeymoon in Chicago then return Monday evening. Daughters Mary and Margaret plan a euchre party at home Monday night with prizes for Kenneth Helper and the Heinie sisters. Out of town guests include Miss Margaret Cassidy and Peter Cassidy and families from Toluca, and Miss Elizabeth Heinie and Miss Anna Heinie of Keokuk Iowa.
The local Knight Templars plan a reception stand at the fair grounds to aid visiting Knights en route to Peoria for the 66th annual conclave. Thousands are expected and the program promises many events as the greatest state meeting. The stand will also serve as a rest stop and information station.
Mr and Mrs Charles Dewey hosted a Sunday picnic dinner at Tick Tock Inn Walnut Grove in honor of their son Robert celebrating his 9th birthday. Attending were Mr and Mrs W W Dewey of Peoria Mrs Eva Dewey Wichita Kansas Mr and Mrs Homer Dewey Peoria Mr and Mrs Mark Curtiss Tiskilwa and Mr and Mrs D S Williams Sheffield.
One dead and one dying after a speeding auto race on the Lacon Henry road near Lacon. Driver Charles Gates, 21, of Lacon, killed when his car overturned and windshield glass slashed his throat. A second occupant is severely injured. both cars were racing a yellow roadster ahead. Moonshine alleged as a factor.
A call has been issued for poultry breeders in Marshall Putnam counties to meet at the Farm Bureau office on Saturday September 9 at 10 a.m. to organize a county wide Poultry Breeders Association. All interested are urged to attend.
Weather report notes Wednesday hit 105 degrees breaking the summer heat record. Government thermometer shows a standout reading while last September’s high was marginally cooler at 103 degrees.
Marshall County winner shines in a ten-entry event with prize money of 129 dollars. The champion grade class saw four purple ribbons for Tibbens, an unusual haul for a single exhibitor. Firsts earned blue, with one red for second place, highlighting strong stock from the Marshall entry.

Merchants in Henry invite readers to next Wednesday's Dollar Day on September 13 as ads showcase bargains and a broad store lineup. Although some advertisers were late and extra pages couldn't be printed, the event aims to draw customers to Henry for the year’s strongest deals.
The grade school reopened with a freshly decorated interior and exterior as urged by the State Department. Classrooms were reorganized to handle 58 students in Miss Young's room while overflow moved to Miss Wallace's fourth room. Tuition is $3.00 monthly, and teachers include H A Otto, May Young, Margaret Wallace, Dorothy Pritchard, Rhoda Kildow, Gertrude BKickerman, and Olga H Ellitson.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Whitmer Mrs David Dwyer and Homer Whitmer were Peoria visitors Tuesday according to local society notes.
The Henry High School opened with 124 students the largest enrollment to date. Seniors arranged a four musical numbers lecture course on a percentage basis. About forty boys joined the glee club, and the girls' glee club meets after school. Fourteen desks added for overflow, teachers and pupils coping with heat, building improvements praised, local notices of visits and family news included.
Charles Ayers who had helped at William Schmitt bakery for months died at Proctor hospital in Peoria at 10 p m Friday September 1 after a period of poor health. He was taken to the Peoria hospital where he lived a week. Funeral services were held at Wilton parlors in Peoria and burial followed at Champaign. Ayers, formerly employed at Hubert's bakery about six years ago, was well liked by all who knew him.
Last evening about a dozen met south of Sparland to view the proposed golf grounds on the bluff above the mine. Golf experts say the 140 yards across is unusual with natural hazards and ground forms that could be shaped at nominal cost. Interest aims to raise funds for clearing brush, stumps, and laying out the course to create a top state club. The land offers an elegant view of the Illinois valley.
A car traveling at high speed left the hard road near the railroad track north of the county line at noon Tuesday. One lady passenger was badly bruised and feared injured internally. The four adults and two children from Springfield sustained multiple bruises as the car’s top, windshield and steering wheel were smashed.
Amree Longman opens a new grocery store in the Gates building on Second Street across from the News-Republican office after moving stock to Tiskilwa in May. The business will offer a full line of groceries and split time between the two locations.
Friends learn of the marriage of William Rambo and DeEtta Henking in Ottawa at 7 p.m. Friday August 25. The ceremony was performed by Rev. H. F. Lawler. The couple planned to stay with Rambo’s uncle after a La Salle visit and will reside with his sister Etta in the near future.

A party led by WE Sullivan with his wife daughter and sister of Jacksonville visited Hotel Henry last night. They were traveling from northern Michigan to their Jacksonville home after a ferris wheel works business. They spent an hour at Jad Barnes's home before leaving.
A three day base ball tournament will be played here next Thursday Friday and Sunday afternoons. Magnolia McNabb Lacon and Henry will be the four teams participating.

Mr and Mrs Tony Schlosser and their young son escaped serious harm when a runaway horse and buggy sped down Hank Hill near Henry Saturday evening. Tony pulled aside to avoid collision as wheels skimmed his buggy, the team toppled, occupants were thrown, and the driver suffered a deep cut treated with stitches.
Mr and Mrs W R Brokaw visited Saturday and Sunday at the home of Jasper Brokaw and family and Mrs Girvin and family at Neponsant. They drove to Mineral on Sunday afternoon and spent Monday with Mrs Brokaw s cousins Mrs Henry Jacobs and family and William Ronnells and family, returning home Monday evening.
