Mrs Cardosi was injured and her husband’s 1954 Ford demolished when a side-road collision on Route 29 near South Rome occurred last Sunday night around 10 o'clock. She was taken to Methodist Hospital Peoria for X-rays and treatment but released later in the week. Their daughter Leah Ann had been away in Canton. Mr Cardosi runs Chuck's Restaurant on Edward Street. Rutland grade school opened Aug 28 with 105 pupils.
The Henry volunteer fire department bought the Lucas lot on Third Street with its own funds and gave it to the city. The site, 40 by 70 feet, previously housed the Henry Artificial Ice building destroyed in last year’s fire, and may host a modern station serving town and rural areas. No immediate building or fundraising plans are in place. A rural-protection committee aims to acquire a tank and pump truck, while current equipment remains cramped in city hall space. Public auction of the Lucas garage at Edward and Second streets will occur September 15.
St Mary’s in Hen cy Hass reports enrollment of about 150 students this year down slightly from last year’s 153. New staff include Sister Margaret Mary music director and Sister Mary Judith teaching grades three and four. current teachers listed for each grade. Henry city council appoints Gordon Downey as water bill collection agent for Downey’s Store Men in the Hotel Henry effective January 1 1957. He will be paid 25 dollars per quarter, a stipend matching the library’s prior arrangement. The change aims to offer ground floor payment access. until then the library at city hall second floor will continue to collect bills. Mrs Paul Waltz and Mrs Wesley Antrim of Peoria visit Mr and Mrs Allen Tuttle today.
Freshmen total 44 with 26 girls and 18 boys at Henry-Senachwinie high. Overall enrollment Tuesday reached 147, up from 146 last year. Sophomores number 35 with 18 boys and 17 girls. juniors 39 with 20 boys and 19 girls. seniors 28 with 16 boys and 13 girls. New faculty member Darryl Schertz teaches industrial arts. returning staff named. The freshman roster includes 44 names such as Catherine Baldwin, Joe Child, Jim Connolly, Judy Cook, and many others.

Henry grade school opens with 50 first graders split into two rooms. total enrollment reaches 304 across eight grades. Henry city council Monday night levied 24150 for city operations for May 1956 to May 1957, with a $200 library increase. They expect 2330 from non tax sources and 2950 to come from the annual tax levy. A Public Benefit Tax Fund of 1000 is set, plus 400 for Fire Department equipment and 240 from water department revenue.
Shaver reports 21 picnic tables built for Henry park use with labor by volunteers. Materials totaled 273.84 for all tables, with 81.44 in contributions so far and a planned city levy of 6 950.00 for police and 6 000 000 for a special tax.
City Treasurer Gale Warner reported balances in various city funds as of September 1, with figures for the general fund, sinking fund, and other accounts, outlining the city's financial position and remaining reserves.
Senator Everett Dirksen will head a countywide caravan of Republican candidates visiting Marshall county on Saturday September 15. The tour starts in Stark county and moves through Henry Wenona Toluca Lacon and beyond with stops in Chillicothe Peoria and ends with evening meetings. Included are Elmer Hoffman John Chapman Earl Searcy Robert Michel Hubert Woodruff Dean McCully Ben Rhodes and other party figures inviting local citizens to join the campaign effort.
The 1956 Marshall-Putnam fair concluded at the grounds last week after four days of events. Attendance remained near last year’s level despite rain, with 2,900 on opening night and 2,300 Friday afternoon. Swine entries surged to 583, beef 260 head, sheep 203, and total entries surpassed 1,100, while premiums neared the prior year’s $29,000 total. The tractor pulling contest replaced the horse show, drawing approval. rain did not cancel programs.
