Annual Marshall-Putnam Fair Set to Open Tuesday
The 18th Marshall Putnam fair and homecoming will formally open at the fairgrounds next Tuesday morning September 11 and run four days. Admission starts at 7 am with various tickets. a two county event with no out of county exhibitors. A $1,300 purse is set for a three day race program plus a night softball tournament and numerous fair attractions. Children enter free Tuesday and a ferry discount is offered for the four days.

Old Age Pension Groups Meet at City Hall
A meeting of the Old Age Pension Association and the Unemployment Association was held at city hall on Tuesday evening September 4 the second anniversary of the state group. State Auditor Announces Bank Of Peoria Dividend Payment
Edward J Barret state auditor announces 25 percent dividend totaling 82568.62 to Bank of Peoria depositors, the second such payment since the bank closed November 14 1933 bringing total to 45 percent. Checks issued about September 7. An additional 52424.66 goes to preferred creditors from Reconstruction Finance Corporation funds.

In 1933 Putnam County recorded the state’s highest death by self destruction rate, 60 per 100000, due to three cases. State health director Dr. Frank Jirka cited self destruction as a major mortality factor behind tuberculosis and pneumonia. The next highest counties were Mercer, Crawford, and Edwards, with Lake, Pratt, Marshall, and others following in the list.

Nellie Wilson 72 of Varna died at 7 30 am last Thursday at her son Young G Wilson’s home in Hennepin after a one day illness described as a throat infection. Survived by sons Young of Hennepin and Marshall of Chicago. Funeral 3 pm Saturday at Young’s home with Rev A J Obrecht. burial in Hennepin Cemetery. Her husband died about four years ago.

Granville Doctor Dies After Spring Valley Picnic
Dr. Clark E. Smart 45, prominent Granville physician, died at St Mary’s hospital Spring Valley after a sudden illness while playing baseball at a doctors picnic. Mills Opens State Hatchery Meeting in Peoria
J Turner Mills of McNabb operator of hatcheries at Henry McNabb Wenona and nearby cities opened the first meeting of the Illinois Baby Chick association at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria. William F Priebe Dies in Chicago Poultry Leader
William F. Priebe a veteran Illinois poultry and egg merchant and former president of the American Poultry Industries died of heart disease in his Chicago home at age 76. A Germany native he moved to the United States as a child, founded W F Priebe & Sons in Chicago, joined the U S food administration in 1918, and led the poultry and egg department coordinating much farm produce marketed by Frank Grampp & Co.

Sparland Man Struck By Bat At Baseball Game
Horatio Campbell of Sparland suffered severe facial injuries when Louis Burlingame's bat slipped during a kittenball game last week. Teeth were knocked out and lower jaw fragments came away with extractions. The upper jaw was bruised and a doctor gave a shot to prevent lockjaw due to the risk.
