Three Lives Snuffed Out In Sunday Auto Accident
A Clinton Iowa crash Sunday claimed the lives of Anna Schmitt and her two granddaughters Marjory Mary and Rosemary Haas. Mrs. Schmitt died at 4:30 PM after the emergency, while Marjory Mary died at 11 AM and Rosemary shortly after. Haas family members and others were injured and treated at Jane Lamb Memorial Hospital. An investigation and funeral arrangements followed in Henry and Savanna with local relatives traveling to the scene.

Wayne Buck of Lacon is named premier 4-H leader candidate earning a trip to the International Leaders conference at Camp Springfield Massachusetts. Delegates aged 18 to 25 are chosen yearly from the state for leadership in 4-H Club work with all expenses paid by Massachusetts paper manufacturer Horace Moses who requires a yearly personal letter for two years after the conference. The two week course covers local club leadership and leading to better home club activity followed by attendance at the Eastern States Exposition. This is Marshall Putnam counties first such honor awarded.

Septic tank demonstrations planned near McNabb
University of Illinois representatives will stage four demonstrations of modern septic tank construction on Fred Kessler’s farm northwest of McNabb. The demonstrations show assembling different farm water systems and will be mounted on a University 2 ton truck. Morris team wins state fair draft pull honors
A team of big black geldings aged 10 and 11 pulled 2,900 pounds along a 27.5 foot route to win at the Illinois state fair. Owned by E B Reaves of Morris they hold the state championship for heavy 3000 pound and over class. Earl Ertle, News-Republican managing editor, has been homebound since Tuesday.
