McNabb Oil Find Titled Gold Mine
Ed Loesch a McNabb merchant struck a gold mine as government inspectors visited the village to examine oil from an abandoned well behind Loesch store. Officials say the crude is high test with only one other similar well in the United States in nearby region. Neighbors have used the oil for tractors and cars and Loesch has even heated a gasoline stove with it.

Old Settlers Picnic Draws 6000 For Reunion Bands
A 6000 crowd at Mars Hall County’s Old Settlers picnic in La con witnessed the largest reunion band contest yet. Lostant Community Band won top prize $150, Wenona Toluca Combined Band second $75, Peoria American Legion Band third $50. Chenoa Community Band led the parade as best marching and dressed. Additional bands included Lacon Community, Soldiers' Orphans' Home Normal, Hobo Band Pekin, Ashton High School, Princeton High School, with Peoria Scout Drum and Bugle Corps entertaining. Judge W N Dieterich spoke on pioneers, and Dick Mueller led the day’s events ending with a grand pavem ent dance.
