Lawrence Newman reports the pool opening was postponed to July 10 due to improvements. The project, funded by an 18,000 bond, adds new sidewalks and chlorination. Residents bought family and swim tickets as crowds gathered for the season’s end and earlier openings.
Mrs Elizabeth Hager announces a Monday afternoon program at 1 o clock in Henry grade school. Moby Fintgeld of Henry will speak on his school days in England and Europe and show slides with a question and answer period to follow. All pupils, parents, and friends are invited to attend.
Charles Lambert, 17 from Chicago, driver of a death car in the Aug 20 Sparland Route 29 crash, is bound over to the October grand jury for negligent homicide after a hearing in Lacon. Bail set at 5000. Other occupants were injured. one victim Warner Olson died.
The report notes the local auxiliary section, including Mrs. Forrest and Mrs. Wood, receiving first places and honors at a national conclave. Members from the 16th district and Henry Bureau participated, with activities and awards highlighted.

Funeral services for Nicholas J Gray 79 retired farmer of Saratoga and Whitefield townships were held Saturday at Boose funeral home. He is survived by six children and a brother Josiah Gray with a large family and many friends. Interment was in Henry City cemetery beside his wife Iva Anne Gray who died in 1946. A obituary was read detailing his life from Feb 26 1873 to Aug 27 1948 and his long farming career.
Cpl Warren A Dewalt son of Mr and Mrs Anthony Dewalt Henry has been promoted in Japan where he has served since December with the 82nd Field Artillery. He is a battery clerk and now trains amphibiously. A Henry High School graduate he did basic training at Camp Breckenridge Ky. His wife and son David Warren live in La Salle with his present address listed as Cpl Warren A Dewalt U S 55129421 C Battery 82 F A Bn APO 201 c o 7
The Illinois Senate Bill 96 increases truck license fees with many operators charged substantive sums. Some farmers with small fleets face higher costs while large operators like a Marshall Putnam county owner see large bills. Protest exists though refunds may be possible if the law is struck down. William Stratton promises to review truck fees if elected.
Henry Priebe of Yorkville, NL, becomes manager of Marshall Putnam Locker Service succeeding Ray who led the task for two years. Priebe will move his family to Henry once housing is found and brings 12 years as Yorkville locker manager plus post officer duties in the Northern Illinois Co op Locker Managers group. He is endorsed by the Illinois Co op Locker Service and the Illinois Agricultural association.
Citizens flooded the county treasurer's office and local banks to avoid penalties as the tax deadline approached. Deputy treasurer Leola Thiedohr and Grace Sponenberg assisted, while Floyd Robinson and Mrs. Robinson vacationed in Alaska.
The Francis Keegan residence at the corner of Wirt and Third street sold at public auction Saturday afternoon to Charles Wherry of Princeton. Wherry, a former Henry resident, will move in after the Keegans complete their new home on the west half of the same lot this summer.
Dr. and Mrs. Robert Vivian have returned to the United States after months in Europe and will show pictures taken abroad at the Methodist church at 8 o'clock Saturday evening September 13. Members of the congregation and friends of the Vivians are welcome to attend the event.
Henry public schools started Tuesday with about 145 at Henry-Senachwine high and 250 at the grade school, plus 115 at St Mary’s parochial. First classes run 8:30 am at the high and 8:45 am at the grade school. enrollment may shift during the first week.
Tri County High School association members meet at Magnolia Swaney high school for a 6 30 picnic dinner and business session. Kenneth Brumm presides as plans are made for baseball schedule four major activities and possible six schools fielding teams. Member schools include Henry Senachwine Wenona Granville Lostant Toluca Sparland Mid County Tonica and Magnolia Swaney.
Five young men were forwarded by the Marshall county draft board for induction into the United States Army on Tuesday August 26. The group includes Patrick Verne Sullivan Jack Lampkin Roger William Schumacher George James Bennett Jr and Lloyd Paul Schlosser. Nine men were also sent for pre induction physical examination three of them being dentists. Miss June Younger clerk of the Marshall county draft board recently spent several days in the Putnam county office while Mrs. Carl Norlin clerk of that board was on vacation.
The history making effort brings hot noonday meals to both high and grade school students in Henry. Beginning Monday, Sept 8, lower grades 1–4 will dine at 11:30 a.m. CST and return to class supervised. Grades 5–8 depart shortly after 11:50 a.m. CST, dine, then regroup. Eligible students may bring lunch if preferred. Tickets offered at 35 cents per day or 1.75 weekly, with weekly planning to curb waste.
Carol Derry arrived in Henry with his wife Maggie Hall after driving from Fort Ord California. He served 21 months in the Korean war including 11 months overseas as a mortar man with the 24th Division earning the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars the UN medal the Combat Infantryman badge and the Army Occupation Medal. He had prior Merchant Marine service in World War II and before service worked for the Marshall Putnam Oil Company.
The 31st annual Marshall Putnam county fair reported higher total attendance than 1951’s 10 240 with amphitheatre admissions also above last year’s 6 544. Premiums reached 30 545 27, receipts totaled 6 216 30 for exhibitors and 4 900 for concessions, and officials expect a profit over 1 000 with state aid around 15 000.
An official count shows 1 042 head of livestock entered across four departments at the fair with 403 swine, 181 beef cattle, 260 sheep, and 192 dairy cattle. Open swine leader Clinton Lundgren notes strong farrowing for a Duroc Jersey sow from Melvin Felk of LaMoille. Large outside exhibitor turnout linked to Iowa state fair shipping restrictions, with many top stock drawn away.
The United Evangelistic Mission program, highly active in the Methodist church, is adopted by the Winals conference for this year. Peoria district holds a preparation meeting at First Methodist East Peoria on Sept 4 with Nashville office staff and evangelism board members present. The UE M will run Oct 31 to Nov 9 in Peoria district as pastors exchange experiences. Rev Charles A Bennett of Henry and Saratoga churches attends the meeting with local evangelism committee members.
Leslie Seoul editor of the Secon Home Journal serves as press secretary for hearings conducted by the House One American Activities Committee. Congressman Harold Velde of Prkin chairs the committee.
The Pearla and Osten sub districts of the Kewanoo Streator and La con MYF hold workshops at Henry Methodist Church on Sunday September 7 at 4 p m DST. Rev Arnold Olsen of Buda serves as district adult counselor. Youth bring sandwiches. Henry ladies provide dessert and drink for about 15 cents each.
Richland Grange began clearing land east of the Richland town hall on the Samuel Buck farm for a new 30 by 60 foot hall. Members plan to serve lunch at the MP Farm Bureau field day and prepare for the fifth degree of the grange at the Illinois State Grange session in Teoria.
