Labor Day Parade Highlights Toluca 1950 Weekend
A Labor Day weekend celebration in Toluca features a 2:30 PM Monday parade led by John Rolinski Post 440 American Legion and the Toluca Junior Women's Club. The main float parade includes antique autos horses and decorated bikes with children’s floats. An accompanying flower show at the American Legion Building carries the theme Salutations Toluca hosted by the Toluca Garden Club. An antique show runs Sept 5 afternoon and all day Sept 6 in St Ann's Hall now in its third year. A Sept 5 chorus concert Sing Out Metamora directed by Larry Schaer at 7:30 PM. Shop windows display local historical items throughout the weekend.

Holmstrom Crowned Queen at Illinois State Fair
Cindy Holmstrom of Varna was elected Miss Illinois Polled Hereford Queen at the Illinois State Fair. Other finalists were Diane Sturdy of Rochester and Mary Ann Peters. Holmstrom was crowned by Homer Fleisher as Knoxville, the Illinois Junior Polled Hereford Association president, announced her duties for the year at duties including DuQuoin State Fair, International Livestock Exposition, and other shows and sales.

The Henry Grade School opens with a total of 682 pupils, 18 more than last year’s peak. Public Aid Rolls Rise Preliminary July Data Show Increase
Preliminary July data indicate a rise in public aid rolls as Harold O Swank of the Illinois Department of Public Aid notes incomplete data on some programs. An increase of 10 028 in money payments is recorded for aid to dependent children and aged blind or disabled. Cook County accounts for 8785 of the rise with downstate counties contributing the remainder.
