The Agricultural Association reports two new grain bins adding 30 000 bushels capacity at Granville and Camp Grove. Construction has begun with first welds, and space now arranged for additional corn storage at McNabb and related sites.
Enrollment at Wilson Henry Senachwine High School shows an increase this year with 135 pupils. The open school day on September 6 will include demonstrations by Miss Virginia and others. Improvements include a roof repair, gymnasium bleachers, and new lighting to enhance facilities.
Reported notes indicate Grade School will start Tuesday September 6 with principal Foulon leading the opening session. The event marks the first organized day of the year, with limited sessions for the first grade and ongoing meetings planned for the year ahead.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Monday for Edward Balensiefen known as Ed who died suddenly in his yard August 25 1949 at age 66. He was a long time farmer with family survivors including his daughter Mildred and son Harold. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery with a large local gathering and thanks extended to Father Schumacher and the Brennan Funeral Home.

Mrs George Brady of Putnam returned Sunday from a ten day visit with her sister and husband Mr and Mrs Ir Johnson at Lincoln Arkansas in the Ozark area. She toured Mount Gaylor Devils Den State Park Lake Fort Smith and Mountain Home enjoying the landscapes and fruit farms near Lincoln. The Johnsons recently moved from Seattle and operate a small farm half a mile west of Lincoln raising apples and other fruit with a few cows and chickens.
The Formfit Company plant at the west edge of Henry employs eighty workers in bras and foundation wear. Sam Larkin, manager, says sustained demand requires at least twenty more workers. Ninety percent of Henry workers are covered by the Zurich Hospital plan which was increased to provide six dollars daily room benefit for 31 days and up to six dollars for extra hospital expenses.
Dick Magnuson of Putnam led top selling cattle on the Chicago market Tuesday with a shipment of 1075 pound Angung yearlings at 2975 dollars per hundredweight. The cattle were purchased for Foods Warr Stores in New York City as Chicago market remained firm near the top.
The All-American thrill show star known as Lucky or Speedy James is celebrated as the world’s best in stunts. He has jumped more stock cars and cars in flight than any other performer, with a broken arm last year and a habit of defying gravity on high ramps and through fiery barriers. He plans to duplicate famous jumps at upcoming fairs, while guiding equipment and drivers as Sarge.

Fred Ely suffered serious head and other injuries Monday night after falling from the running board of a car on Route 20 between Henry and Sperland. Mrs Lily drove the car to the road shoulder while Ely lost balance and struck the pavement. He was taken to Spring Valley hospital for X rays and treatment. relatives reported he remained unconscious but resting Wednesday. An operation on his injured eye was performed but outcome for sight remained uncertain.
Sheriff Park McAllister helped recover a 14 year old runaway who rode with a truck driver from Flanagan to Clayton Missouri before welfare officers stopped her. The girl previously stayed at the soldiers and sailors orphanage in Normal Illinois and may be returned there.

Henry Rotary Club inducted three new members Robert Swengel attorney James Miller furniture retailer and Lloyd Murphy foods reviewer Hoff. Rev Bot Gibson chaired the ceremony and spoke on Rotary service lanes. Harold Frey received a past president pin from Dick Fintgeld amid a luncheon with visiting Rotarians and speakers on health insurance plans.

A 1873 atlas presented by Mrs Higgs to the Henry Public Library preserves Whitefield Township history. Bio sketches highlight early industry including Alanson P. County Judge D M Gregg in Marshall County Court signed a petition transferring six sections in Hopewell Township from Henry-Senachwine High School District to Varna-Lacon Community Unit District. This first case under a new law gives the county judge authority over school territory transfers rather than the county superintendent. Henry-Senachwine district did not contest the transfer.
The Henry post office will be closed on Monday September 5 for Labor Day. There will be no rural route delivery, no city delivery, and no window service.
