Putnam county schools earned top honors at the Illinois State Fair as county Superintendent Thomas M. Kennedy organized rural and village school exhibits. Sangamon took second, Brown third. Ten classes showcased work in manual training, penmanship, domestic science, natural science, drawing, history, geography, civics, language, and more with maps, charts, and educational displays from grades one through eight.

McDonough County Beats Marshall-Putnam 6–2 In Opener
McDonough County won 6 to 2 over Marshall-Putnam in the first game of a three game series at Henry Fair Grounds. Arntzen pitched well for the visitors with 8 strikeouts and 5 hits allowed, while Tweddale gave up 12 hits and fanned 5. The second game is set for Macomb at Western Teachers College diamond on Friday September 2. Don Brown of Peoria, the umpire from game one, will umpire again at Macomb.

Mrs. Gertrude Apfel widow of Conrad Apfel died at her home near Henry on Monday at 83. Funeral services were held at St Marys Catholic Church with Fr Andrew Schauer officiating and burial in Calvary cemetery. She was born in Germany and came to America early, survived by six daughters Mrs Barney Bergantz Mrs Henry Kapraun Mrs William Mercian Mrs Bickerman and two sons August at home and another in Ohio. A detailed biographical sketch will be published next week.

Sarah Catherine Taylor Weatherly Reichenbach born October 24 1852 near Atwood Illinois died August 27 1932 in Henry Illinois at age 79 years 10 months 10 days. She married Noah A Weatherly in 1871 then Albert A Reichenbach in 1889. Survived by two daughters Lula Hubard and Carrie Weatherly, two sisters and two grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 2 30 PM at the Methodist Episcopal church Henry with Rev Leonard and Rev Turner officiating. Burial in Henry City cemetery.

Big Hitch Demonstration Draws Farmers at Quinn Farm
More than 500 farmers attended a demonstration at Elmer Quinn's farm in Henry on Monday August 29 showing back ropes and tie chains for two horse teams and several multi horse hitches. Old-Time Players Edge Greys For 3 2 Win In Annual Game
The aging Henry Greys defeated the younger squad 3 to 2 at the fairgrounds diamond Sunday afternoon. About 400 spectators witnessed the oldtimers’ victory, with cheers for the elders and jibes at umpires Sculley Jones and Bus Meihsner.
