Senachwine Grade Revives Old Memorial Day Tradition

The 7th and 8th grades of Senachwine Grade School with Principal Wendell Torrance and Mrs. Torrance revived a Memorial Day tradition by visiting Chief Senachwine's grave on Friday May 26 and placing a wreath. Lloyd Wheeler led a tour of the site on his farm and artifacts, with the wreath donated by Mrs. Darlene Hartwig.

Graduation Change at Putnam County High

Putnam County Board of Education met in special session on May 25 to reschedule the high school commencement from Friday, June 2 to Saturday, June 3 due to the baseball team’s state tournament finals. The board cited district support for the team and recognized no solution would please all, but delayed ceremonies to allow student support during the tournament.

Daily Vacation Bible School Week in Henry Churches

Henry churches host a week of 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Bible School for Kindergarten through Junior departments at local churches. High school youth meet 6:45 to 9:00 p.m. daily starting June 5 with Rev Elwell and Miss Pam Warner leading. Offerings support Migrant Children in Princeville and educational facilities. Theme is Explore Tomorrow With Jesus.

Henry Parade Rained Out and Pool Open Delays

Rain canceled the Henry Memorial Day parade scheduled for Monday morning. Legionnaires held cemetery services as planned. The Henry Municipal Swimming Pool opening was dampened though the facility stayed open Monday afternoon.

Second Oral Polio Clinics In June

Mrs Margaret Woerner and L P County Nurse and L T Schubert remind parents of Marshall County June second oral polio immunization clinics. Children age three months to 18 years without prior doses may receive the trivalent vaccine at Varna Toluca Lacon Sparland Wenona schools June 6 to 9 1972 with consent forms available at each site.

LaPrairie Vacation Bible School Noted By Local Church

LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church hosts a Daily Vacation Bible School for parish children June 5 to 10 from 1 30 to 3 30 p m at the church omitting sessions on Wednesday the 7th The study is My God My Faith My Life The event invites children from other churches and offers classes for all ages through the 8th grade.

Mrs Allan Mitchell announces the Henry Public Library Summer Reading Program for youths begins June 5 and runs through August 5 1972 The Mystery Game theme includes a prize filled Mystery Box and certificates for reaching reading milestones requiring library cards registrations and age appropriate book counts

Parade Entries Open For July Fourth Observance

Henry Post 323 American Legion seeks participants for a July 4 1972 parade with the theme This Land is Your Land. The committee offers multiple trophies including Judges Trophy for most original entry and invites businesses and organizations to enter. B F Goodrich Promotes Flynn to International Manager

Clarence R Flynn is promoted to Manager Engineering Services and Project Evaluations in the International Department of BF Goodrich Chemical Company. He will be based in Cleveland, Ohio reporting to Robert P Kenney. Effective July 16, the transfer follows his start at the Henry plant in 1958 as Product Manager of the Geon Plant. He and his wife Dee and son Tom will move when housing is available. Jerry is married to Beth Egan and lives in Champaign while attending the University of Illinois.

Tom Jackson Wins Army ROTC Four Year Scholarship

Omas Tom Jackson, a Henry Senachwine High School senior and 1011 Warren Street resident, received a national Four Year ROTC Scholarship. He will attend Western Illinois University with tuition, textbooks, and lab fees covered and a $100 monthly subsistence allowance for four years.

Graduation Night At John Swaney Junior High

Graduation at John Swaney Junior High is set for 8 p.m. May 31 in the Swaney gym. Rick Schlosser gives the Welcome, Junior High Chorus performs two songs, and the class sings We've Only Just Begun. Outstanding Legislator Award To Senator Hudson Sours

The Illinois Small Business Men's Association named Senator Hudson R. Sours of Memoira as the 1971 Outstanding Legislator. Chosen from over 200 state lawmakers, Sours has led in State Revenue as Senate Revenue Committee chair from 1965 to 1970 and led the Illinois Civil War Commission.
