Henry hosts a two day Antique Automobile event featuring a 1910 Stanley Steamer owned by Kenneth Rer of Mendota. Visitors vote for a favorite car among models like 1931 Graham and 1932 Packard with tours through Mendota Granville Chillicothe Hennepin and Peoria plus a trophy prize.
Funeral services for Ben Martin a 93 year old Henry resident who died at his home Sunday May 28 were held at Green Funeral Home this afternoon. The Rev F Gwynne Cook officiated at 2 p.m. Interment followed in Henry City Cemetery. Surviving are three sons Edward and Joe Martin of Peoria Frank Martin and Mrs. William DeWalt Etta of Henry. A complete obituary will be published next week.
Bidwell of the local church led memorial observances Tuesday with a parade from the corner of Main and Second to Third, ending at the cemetery. Edwin Barry read a prayer as the Legion fired a salute and taps closed the program. Members of the Legion, Auxiliary, Scouts, police and highway officers participated under ideal weather.
The Henry-Senachwine Alumni Association held its 69th reunion Monday at the Henry-Senachwine High School gym with about 260 attendees. William Miller led the meeting, seniors were welcomed by class president William Engelbrecht, and special tables honored 1911 1936 1951 1956 graduates plus those over 50 years.
The Henry Game resumes this Saturday night, June 3, from 8 to 8 30 p.m. and 9 to 9 30 p.m. under the Henry Chamber of Commerce retail promotion committee. Merchants donate prizes plus a Henry Dollar award for winners each week, with continued games every Saturday until further notice. A list of award recipients will be published in the Henry News Republician.
John H Monier 85 a retired Henry farmer died Monday night at St Margaret's hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 30 p m at the Henry Presbyterian church with ministers from LaPrairie United Presbyterian and Henry Presbyterian officiating. Burial in Henry City cemetery. Survived by wife Ethel Robb Monier a LaPrairie resident two daughters two brothers Thomas of Galva and Halsey Sparland. Green Funeral home open for calling after 4 p m today. A full obituary will be published next week.
The Marshall Putnam ASC accepts Arthur O'Brien of Henry as the successful bidder for a new federal farm program office. His bid is $500 below rivals. Construction starts immediately on the lot he bought from Charles Knight, near the Knight peony garden. The ASC offices will move from the Lowell Hageman buildings on Second Street.
Twenty three eighth grade students of St Marys parochial school will receive diplomas at the 8 oclock mass in St Marys church Sunday June 4. The class list includes Laurence Bickerman Arthur Bogner Duane Bogner Arnette Bowen Richard Brown Gerald Clift Mary Ann Di Gregorio Paul Engelbrecht Robert Glatz William Guebel Rebecca Hank Sandra Hodge Katherine Kapraun Joseph Kuss Patricia Mattern Harold Maupin Robert McNutt Gerald Merdian Mary Ann Monier Margaret Mounts Gregory Schlosser Sandra Shorts and Christian Zur Schmiede. The Henry Happy Hustlers 4 H club will meet Monday June 5 at 730 pm at the Form Bureau building.
Three students Anne Foster Wilma Robison and Judy Nichols share the top scholastic rank of 1961 Henry Senachwine high school with equal margins under two grading methods.
Magnolia will dedicate its new post office at 3 pm Sunday June 4. Postmaster Edith Defenbaugh notes the facility in Magnolia joins a federal leasing program to avoid direct construction costs while paying local taxes. The dedication address will be given by Frank R Adams, field service officer for the area.
