Memorial Day 1923 was observed with a procession led by the Henry Municipal Band and coordinated by the American Legion Women’s Relief Corps and D A R. Services at the bridge and Central Park featured prayers by Rev J W Turner and Rev Father Brennan, music by the band and Girls Quartet, and speeches by Rev Dr B G Carpenter praising veterans and American ideals. At Henry cemetery the Women’s Relief Corps conducted services, unveiling a bronze plaque on Miss McManners’ monument.

Farm Auto Tour Planned Across Marshall County
The Farm Bureau hosts a Friday June 8 auto tour visiting about 15 farms in Marshall County west of the river. Highlights include cattle feeding and farms such as Hunt Bros and Turnbulls with a noon address by Prof. W. H. Smith. The tour begins at Henry at 8:00 a.m. with luncheon on the Turnbull lawn.

Death removes Mrs Margarit Hanley in city funeral
Margarit Hanley widow of John Hanley died Tuesday evening at 7 45 at her residence in the city in her 66th year after a two year cancer illness. She was born Margaret Quinlan in St Louis October 13 1857 and moved to this city at age two. She married John Hanley April 24 1905 at St Joseph's church and survived by an aunt Mrs Ellen Malone. She was a devoted member of St Joseph's church and raised Mayme Brown, an orphaned niece, as her own. Funeral services were held at St Joseph's Church this morning with Rev Fr Brennan officiating and burial in St Joseph's Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Barry Frank Baer James Barry William Siewers Lott Sullivan and William Kuss. Out of town attendees included Michael Sullivan Minonk and Miss Sarah Sullivan Peoria.

Young Mary Russell Dies at Fourteen from Measles and Pneumonia
Mary Elizabeth Russell youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Hayes Russell died at fourteen after a brief illness during a measles and pneumonia outbreak. She was born September 6, 1908, in La Prairie and moved to the city two years ago. Funeral services were held at Smith Funeral Chapel with Rev J W Turner officiating. Driver of Suspicious Car Brought In After Delavan Incident
A war veteran, Thomas Kilgore of Bloomington, was arrested after a damaged four door Ford with torn upholstery and bloodstains was found. He claimed the car after an accident near Delavan where his father was badly hurt. The car was given to Sheriff Litchfield on orders of a state automobile inspector.

Chicago Couple Injured in Auto Smash-Up Near Putnam
Mr and Mrs J E Withrow of Chicago were injured when their Ford coupe overturned after hitting a culvert one mile north of Putnam. The man suffered a broken left leg and the woman a severe gash in the right leg. both were severely cut and bruised. They were taken to Henry hospital by a White Freight Line driver.

George T Shurts of Whitefield died May 23 at his home after a stroke in February last year. Born September 1 1847 in Fleetville New Jersey, he lived in Illinois from age three, married Caroline True in 1876, and left a wife two sons four grandchildren two brothers and a sister.
