Goodrich plant project starts with Blaw-Knox supervision

Henry McGrath of St. Louis acting as construction superintendent for Blaw-Knox reports Monday start of plant work north of J L McGrath. Fifteen workers at the site include manual laborers and safe machine operators. two car workers from Gel-Clark of Cleveland are sub contractors for electrical work. The project uses Caterpillar power and is run on a union basis with local workers in the crew.

Removal of 90 Year Old Frame Building From Henry Business District

A 90 year old frame building on Edward street between Gamble store and the old bank tavern is being torn down by Leroy Buck under Curt Lucas. The site next to the miniature wild animal zoo will be cleared for future use and possible zoo expansion.

Henry Hagains New Editor Role at Goodrich Chemical Plant

Henry William F. Dalligher is appointed editor by Goodrich Chemical Company during construction at the Henry general chemicals site. He will start around June 1 and has a 1955 Carroll University Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He and Joanne and their two daughters will live at 1 Edward Street.

Soldiers' graves in Henry cemeteries marked for Memorial Day

In six Henry County cemeteries on Tuesday, graves were placed with flags by the American Legion and scouts. Flags will mark outlying cemeteries including Mercian-Wies, Center, Sugar Grove, Forbes, and Sawyer in township.

Bonnie Magnuson Becomes Lake Forest Fourth Grade Teacher

Miss Bonnie Magnuson has signed a contract to teach fourth grade at the Groton school in Lake Forest for the next school year. She just completed her degree at Illinois State Normal University in January and has been teaching third and fourth grade at John Swaney Consolidated Grade School. She will return to ISNU June 8 for commencement and will receive her diploma and bachelor of science in education. For the summer she will work at Paradise Ranch in Woodland, Colorado.

Eggs Scrambled By Henry Produce In Ditch Crash

Fourteen cases of eggs were scrambled Tuesday when a Henry Produce truck driven by Irvin Morgensen veered into a ditch near the Willis Wheeler farm west of Putnam. Wheeler helped retrieve the vehicle from the roadside.

Two Vacancies Created on Marshall County Board of Review

Henry Grade School Graduation Exercises Monday

Eighth grade graduation at Henry Grade School gymnasium Monday evening at 8 o clock DST. Mrs Lee York will play the processional and recessional and Rev Orville Masemore gives the invocation and benediction. Mixed and girls choruses perform and several graduates will present diplomas and awards.

Henry forms committee for Lock Pond recreation project

Mayor John H Wagner appoints a committee to aid the Lock Pond development in Henry for public recreation. Co chairmen Rev Ray Schultz and Max Allard lead with members John Wosik, Lee Titcomb, and Dick Finfgeld. The State conservation department will allocate 800 to 900 dollars this year for a boat landing or similar facility, to be discussed with city officials when engineers visit Henry around July 1.

Benefit Motorcycle Races for Library Near Henry Tomorrow

The Swamp Angels Motorcycle club of Henry sponsors a full program of races on their club grounds east of Henry on route 18 tomorrow afternoon to raise funds for the Henry Library building. Races start at 2 p.m after time trials. Twelve trophies donated by local Henry businesses will be presented at the end by Mayor John H Wnogner.

Government Will Lease New Henry Post Office

The U S Post Office announces summer bids for a Henry Illinois post office lease. Estimated 1500 square feet, private firm may construct and lease back to the department. Lease length five to ten years with no federal funding, contact local officials for details.

Funeral Services Thursday For Forrest Lester

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday May 30 at the Green Funeral Home in Henry for Forrest Lester 75 who died at home of his daughter Mrs Lloyd Wright Tuesday May 28 Rev Melvin Ray Schultz of the Henry Christian church will officiate and burial will be in the Putnam cemetery Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home beginning this afternoon Wednesday Mr Lester is survived by seven children A complete obituary will appear in next week's issue.
