Seventy seven graduates received their diplomas Tuesday at the Henry High School gym. The ceremony featured music from the school orchestra, a formal stage setup, and the address by Dr. Walter Briggs of Decatur. Diplomas were presented by Prof. A S Nichols with musical numbers by Wilfred Wright and a benediction by Rev. Andrew Schauer.

Marshall-Putnam Farmers To Visit Chicago Yards Tour
A group of Marshall Putnam farmers will charter a special train from Varna on June 3 to Chicago yards. The trip aims to learn grading and sorting methods and how livestock is handled at the Chicago market. The train leaves Varna at 6:00 a.m. and reaches Chicago about 8:00 a.m. After the tour, participants may tour downtown and see a show, planning to return the same day. over a hundred farmers and their wives expect to join.

Pheasant Egg Shipment Contract Ties to Henry County Farm
A five year contract between Wagner farm near Henry and the Sportsman's Mutual calls for 50 000 pheasant eggs and 15 000 eight week old pheasants to be delivered at 10 000 eggs and 3 000 birds yearly. First deliveries were made Tuesday. Readied for distribution to leased shooting farms under Sportsman's Mutual oversight. An aggressive wildlife protection campaign targets hogs crows and other predators. More than 100 000 acres are already leased as sanctuaries across 20 Illinois counties aiming for two million acres total. Membership limits ensure at least two hundred acres per member.

Putnam County Board Names New Leaders and Licensee
The Putnam County Board of Supervisors elected Mark Kays of Magnrolia township as chairman for the coming year and appointed him to head the county farm committee. John Henning of Hennepin township was named superintendent of the courthouse and grounds. Hazel B. Biszak received a license to operate a dance hall on Frank Smith farm south of McNabb. The meeting adjourned to June 8 after limited business.

Eighth Grade Graduation Held at Henry Gymnasium
Forty eight students from iRed Town Sugar Grove St Marys parochial Sawyer Niblock and Henry grade schools were graduated at the annual community commencement in the Henry gym Monday evening. A large crowd filled the gym as a varied program featured solos duets a playlet and a class song. Rev A B Cope gave the address stressing perseverance courage and effort. Diplomas were presented by W E King with notes on Helen Duke receiving the D A R scholarship and a silk American flag. The benediction closed the exercises.

The Illinois Health Messenger notes diphtheria is no longer among fatal diseases in Marshall and Putnam counties. Marshall has been diphtheria free for two years, Putnam for one year, while Stark county reports no fatal cases in eight years and Herrin no fatalities in six years. Fifty six counties and nineteen cities have been free of diphtheria deaths for ten months.

Mrs. Catherine Meister died at the La Salle home of her daughter Mrs. Albert Kranz after a paralytic stroke. She was 86 and had lived with her daughter for three years.
