Survived by children Frances Schmitt Cecilia Garman Annawan Margaret Burchanan Hardin Marie Eves and two brothers. Funeral Mass at St Marys Church Henry with pallbearers from nearby towns and Davenport. Burial in family lot at nearby cemetery.

John W. Litchfield, known as Captain Litchfield, formerly of Toluca, has risen from second lieutenant at Camp Forrest to captain in the U S Army. He served in the South Pacific after training and overseas stints. He is the first in Benning ship to reach captain rank and is a second cousin of Ray Litchfield, county Selective Service chairman.

Help Needed For Surgical Dressings Move and Quota
The Henry Red Cross surgical dressings moved from the Hotel Henry basement to the K of C rooms for hotel laundry needs. New room opens Tuesday afternoon June 1 at 2 oclock. May quota received and volunteers are urged to help finish it. Wenona Center handles Marshall County dressings with Mrs. Clarence Duke coordinating. Lacon serves as shipping center as war department asks higher shipments. In March nationwide chapters shipped over 109 million dressings, averaging more than 4 million daily.

The Illinois River reached historic highs causing extensive flood damage along towns and farms. Henry Mayor L F Klein and the city water committee organized a levee with many volunteers, protecting Henry water works and saving thousands in repairs. Over 100 men built a lumber and sandbag barrier. numerous local groups and businesses contributed, and water remained safe to drink with chlorine added while aid continued. The Henry defense council, Red Cross, Girl Scouts, and volunteers coordinated food, supplies, and transport as the river receded.
