Henry city pool set to open with upgrades and new staff
The Henry pool will open next Monday May 30 with improvements meeting Illinois Public Health standards. Lifeguard Dimmy Williams returns, Gerald Christiansen acts as manager, heating and drainage upgrades completed, a new sixteen foot spring diving board installed, a new ladder added, and bathhouse redecorated. Pool remains self supporting with last year showing a $149.45 profit and season tickets priced at $5 family, $2.50 individual, or $1 daily. officials include Aldermen Moline Stoner and Hunter.

Marshall County launched direct air mail service on a commemorative day. A volunteer air mail plane piloted by Myron Hexter carried the sack from the local post office to the Galhens farm landing in Hopewell Township. More than 500 people gathered near Lacon at the John Calhoun farm to witness the May 19, 1938 air mail flight carrying 1509 letters from Henry to Chicago. Postmaster F L Wright and local officials participated as stamps and a special slogan marked the mail.

Percy Swain river captain dies in Los Angeles
Captain Percy Swain a prominent riverman who operated packets between Peoria and Henry for decades died Monday in Los Angeles aged 66. He helped build Henry as a shopping hub, piloted the Borealis Rex, and retirement followed 1924 with later life in Peoria then California. Surviving wife Julia Belle Westfall and relatives are listed.
