Lt Raffensperger Returns Home From Army Service

First Lieutenant J E Raffensperger, formerly in antiaircraft artillery of the Eastern defense command, is back in Henry on terminal leave from Camp Stewart Ga after 16 months of service. He previously commanded an antiaircraft battery at Paterson Nova Scotia and served on the group staff in New York City before training recruits at Camp Stewart. His return follows War Department moves to relieve officers and reduce over age units, with his future status and assignment now indefinite. He leaves for Ashe Indiana to visit his uncle John Trimmer and may fish before returning to duties. He remains subject to recall to active duty.

Marshall County Tax Statements Completed After Delays

After more than two months delay, Marshall County tax statements are issued. County Treasurer, with help from the Clerk and others, completed tax books ahead of time and will mail statements this week. Installment deadlines extend to July 1 with no penalties, while second installment penalties remain September 1. Some districts borrowed funds during the delay, with distributions expected by mid July as funds are collected.

Lieutenant Charles Meihsner arrived home from Albany Georgia where he earned his wings and commission as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. Graduation exercises were held at Turner Field on Tuesday May 23. After a nine day leave spent with his mother and relatives he will go to Dodge City Kansas for transition school to become a first pilot on a B 26 bomber.

Mr and Mrs Ray Warner received the Purple Heart this Thursday morning for their son Staff Sergeant Wayne Warner who was listed as missing in action January 11 this year and died of wounds in a German prison camp sometime later.

Technical Sergeant Robert L. Coan arrived in New Orleans after nearly three years in the Panama Canal Zone. In a telegram to his mother he said he was safely in the States and would see his agents soon. He had served as head assistant machinist in a shop in the Panama Canal Zone.
