Lieutenant Charles Meihsner arrived home from Albany Georgia where he earned his wings and commission as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. Graduation exercises were held at Turner Field on Tuesday May 23. After a nine day leave spent with his mother and relatives he will go to Dodge City Kansas for transition school to become a first pilot on a B 26 bomber.
Mr and Mrs Ray Warner received the Purple Heart this Thursday morning for their son Staff Sergeant Wayne Warner who was listed as missing in action January 11 this year and died of wounds in a German prison camp sometime later.
Lester Pete Smith, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Guy Smith, will leave for active military service on June 1. He is a father of three, Jimmy Patty and Guy Eddie, and his wife is Daisy Ransom, daughter of C Ransom of Princeton. Before being called, he worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for three years.
State approves new State Route 29 from south of Henry to Sparland near Bobo's Place. Will follow Rock Island tracks, widen to 24 feet on 100 foot right of way, replace Crow Creek bridge, and boost traffic for war workers and upcoming Henry creamery plant. Michael Fahy a longtime Democratic leader from Toluca and a 26 year Illinois General Assembly representative was named chairman of the Marshall County Democratic Central Committee at a La Con courthouse meeting last Monday. Technical Sergeant Robert L. Coan arrived in New Orleans after nearly three years in the Panama Canal Zone. In a telegram to his mother he said he was safely in the States and would see his agents soon. He had served as head assistant machinist in a shop in the Panama Canal Zone.
