Mrs Coddington wife of the McNabb school principal died after an automobile accident near Lowell. She was 48 and leaves a grown son and daughter in Champaign. Services were held at the McNabb Methodist church before burial in Champaign.
A large outdoor May Day program on the campus featured a May Queen Frances Elizabeth Forbes, with page Norman Abbott and attendants. The Girls Glee Club sang Fairy Festival, and dances including Danish Greeting and Ribbon Dance highlighted the event along with a May Pole finale.
The American Legion Post No 323 of Henry hosted a free evening for locals featuring songs and speeches. A six o clock train arrival brought state officers, a banquet at Hotel Henry, performances by J. S. Sproul and the Frisco Four, and remarks by Commander McCauley and State Insurance Officer Gerardo. The program continued at the Henry Opera House with music from the Twentieth Century Orchestra and a talk on the federal estados bonus bill. The article notes the show was cut off to be continued next week.
Next Sunday May 28 the Henry Greys travel to Wyoming for their fifth game and first meeting with the Wyoming team. Officials anticipate a strong Wyoming defense and a competitive contest likely to attract many local supporters.
All citizens who will donate cars for conveyance to Henry Cemetery on Decoration Day are urged to notify John N. Giblin by phone or in person. Several cars are needed for the occasion.
News-Republican plans to print graduates pictures from Henry high schools Swaney Putnam Sparland Magnolia McNabb Varna and nearby districts. Notify by next Wednesday noon for extra copies. orders may be unfilled if pictures are not printed.
Mrs. Abram Shorts dies at 74 years after Sunday services and dinner. Mary Adaline True Shurts, born 1847 in Guilford Indiana, married Abram T. Shurts in 1866. The family lived in Bureau County and Whitefield before moving to Henry. Survived by husband, son George Edward, daughter Maud Willett, siblings, and many friends. Funeral held at her residence with M E Church rites and Henry R C conduct.
A sweet eight pound girl arrives at the Fred Linderer home in Hope at 5 p m on May 20th. The infant weighs eight pounds and is growing strong. The mother is progressing nicely with Mrs Jarman serving as nurse in attendance.
University of Illinois professor H P Rusk will lead the first auto tour of the season in Marshall County on Friday June 2 starting at Sparland at 9 00 a m. The group will visit leading livestock farms to learn about alfalfa production and corn root rot and attendees are asked to bring lunch baskets. A large delegation plans to participate.
Memorial Day programs organized by the W R C and American Legion set for Memorial Day. 1:30 p.m. march from W R C Hall to the bridge and Central Park for a ritual by the W R C, flower casting on the Illinois waters, and a memorial tree dedication by the American Legion. The day ends with services at Henry cemetery and an address by Rev Lee of Princeton titled Lest We Forget. A grave-decorating committee is named for Sugar Grove and Center.
The Country Woman's Club met May 18 1922 with Mrs L F Boyle. Members shared hopes for benefit from Home Bureau and discussed its aims. Refreshments followed and the next meeting was set for June 1 with Mrs Laura Reismeyer.
A Memorial Day program will be held Sunday May 28 at 11 oclock in the Henry Opera House. The event features Battle Hymn of the Republic Congregation Prayer and Scripture Lesson led by Rev W J Carpenter songs by a Young Ladies Quartette solos by Olive Elizabeth Smith Frances Elizabeth Forbes and a speaker Rev H G Dusenberry with closing prayer by Rev Turner M H Smith chairman.
On May 24 at Hotel Henry, about 125 alumni and guests gathered for a large Henry High School Alumni event. Attendees ranged from classes 1876 to 1922, with the 1922 faculty honored, featuring speeches, songs, readings, and multiple class roll calls led by C. H. Davis and Miss Elise Helper.
A large home crowd watched Henry lead a 8 to 2 victory in game four as Bradford started strong but the Grey team tipped the balance late. McIntee Philhoner Stoner Travers Mercian drove runs while Mclntee Kissinzger made errors. Bradford fans supported their squad.

A Saturday election in Putnam County approved a school facilities proposition with 115 votes in favor and 100 against. Voters also set a second election by June 20 to elect a board of directors who will plan the measures to carry out the majority’s wishes.
Henry High School holds commencement Monday evening at the Henry Opera House with an orchestral program and invocation by Rev. Carpenter. Dr Geo L Robinson delivers the address, with vocal numbers by H W Seitz and a diploma presentation by H W Mattison. The program includes an organ solo, a marimbaphone solo, a chorus, and an orchestra roll call listing Barbara Fiedler and other names.
