Varna High School announces top graduates from the class of 1955. Bina Varna's valedictorian honors go to a student with a 4.0 grade point average and extensive extracurriculars including varsity football baseball and track. William Palm, senior class president and FFA leader, earned high marks and co edited the yearbook while active in student government and the class play. Both plan to attend the University of Illinois in June, pursuing chemical and electrical engineering respectively.

Three Break-ins Reported In Henry Monday Night
Henry city officers investigated three late Monday night break-ins in Henry. At Kays Hatchery a side door was forced with no items reported missing. Mallard Motor Company saw $70 stolen and an attempted safe drill, a 1958 Chevrolet taken and abandoned near the depot after about 20 miles. Hunt's Lumber Yard also reported a forced cash register theft of about $19. Sheriff James A. Evans and Officer John Steele led the inquiries.

The Marshall Putnam fair will add a photo finish camera this year to decide close harness races. The Northern Illinois Colt Association supplies the camera with local installation by the fair, boosting county fairs on a statewide racing network. Halsey Monier of Sparland serves as Marshall Putnam fair secretary treasurer and NI Colt Association president, driving growth of standard bred horses and the 423 colts already named for competition. The association plans 112000 in purses and 19 racing starts across Chicago area tracks and county fairs, with Springfield state fair stake eligibility and long term growth led by Monier and a 25 year history of Colt Association leadership.
