Louis F Klein proclaims May 24 as Poppy Day in the City and urges residents to wear the red crepe poppy to honor war dead. Disabled veterans and Legion Auxiliary members will distribute poppies at hospitals and locations throughout the city to aid veterans and needy children.
Harold, a member of the local farm organization, and Tracy coordinated after a motor incident at the creamery farm. They arranged a replacement motor at Joe Hank's air strip and met a lakefront courier by 4 40 pm. The prompt response saved the milk supply and prevented a shutdown of operations.

Mrs. David Pratt age 59 died at her home near McNabb on Monday May 19 after a period of illness. She was born Florencé Cox in Fayette County December 6 1852 and married David Pratt March 20 1911. Survived by eight children Dale Muncie Carl Lacon Mary Hattan Ruby Judd Robert Lestant Marie Johnson John McNabb and Ray overseas in Okinawa. 14 grandchildren. sister Elizabeth Ahlif Wenona. brothers Richard and Bryan Cox. Funeral services tentatively set for Thursday pending word from Ray via Red Cross.
Pfc. Robert A. Bogner of H Company 8th Infantry Regiment 4th Division stationed in Budingen Germany writes of a Europe leave ending with an audience with the Pope in Rome arranged by the USO. He notes Swiss towns Basel and Lake Geneva, Alps travel, and Italian hospitality amid limited English spoken. He plans more travel in Europe and shares his homeward hopes.
George Koehler will head the Salvation Army annual fundraising drive in Henry and county with D K Farr as treasurer. The campaign begins next week after committees form. Local funds stay for emergencies and letters go to clubs churches and rural residents highlighting expanded health and welfare programs.
Miss Margie Hofer daughter of Mr and Mrs Louis Hofer will reign as queen at May crowning services at St Marys church at 7 pm Sunday May 25 Attendants are Dorothy Engelbrecht and Norma Damm Rev Fr Carl Mayes of Oglesby will deliver the sermon Everyone is welcome to attend.
Sunday evening on Route 29 at Heinrich farm between Henry and Putnam two people sustained injuries in a two car collision. Philip Rose suffered a scalp wound and bruises while Miss Mary Anne Landers had neck and back injuries. The incident occurred when Roses 1950 Ford struck Edward Engelbrecht 1947 Frazer after Engelbrecht’s car stalled on the pavement. Both drivers were assisted by onlookers and the cars were towed to local garages for repair.
Charles Williams and Joe Ryan of Henry, Illinois were knocked from a 14 foot runabout on Lake Senachwine Sunday afternoon. They learned to swim after going overboard as the boat swamped near Woods Creek and reeled in by a nearby craft. The 22% hp Evinrude motor boat suffered a damaged propeller and a Stilson wrench worth about 25 dollars. both men escaped unhurt apart from the soaking.
Mt. Vernon, Illinois superintendent J.L. Buford will deliver the Sparland High School commencement address at 8 p.m. in the gym. Rev Fr Martin J Spalding will speak at the Baccalaureate on May 25. The program lists processions, musical numbers, and diplomas with several students named as graduates and officers.
The Henry News Republic an reports its small classifier ad overwhelmed A W Barth garage bicycle division with repair and service requests. On Monday 15 bicycles were in the repair line as the paper boasts success for its advertisers under general manager Laurence Ziegler.
Conrad Koch of Varna, former mayor and Varna committee co chairman, says progress is being made to secure signers for Varna’s petition to withdraw from the Mid County unit. He supports Varna’s separation to run a better, more equitable school with fewer transportation problems while not opposing participation for tax reasons.
Mrs Florence Grieves entertained Christopher Lobingier chapter of the DAR with a dessert luncheon on Wednesday May 14 at the Lacon Country club. Officers elected included regent Mrs Ash and first vice president Mrs Lloyd with Grieves as second vice president. The luncheon featured strawberry queen parfait and games of bridge. The chapter will host the DAR Second District convention in September with state officers expected to attend.
The eighth grade graduation will be held Monday evening May 26 at 8 o'clock in the gym. Twenty four graduates will receive diplomas. Activities include processional, invocation, prayers, color presentation, songs, trumpet and piano solos, class history, honors, and diploma presentation. Reverend John Howard and Jeanne Forney lead, with several students and staff named as participants and accompanists.
Home Bureau plans a guided tour to Galena Illinois known as Little Switzerland of Illinois established in 1819. The trip highlights include Grace Episcopal church the old custom house and U S Grant home with tours on Thursday June 5 with sign up by May 28. Other sites to be featured Dickeyville grotto White Pines state park and Palisades state park.
A pot luck supper at 6 30 will headline the Henry Senachwine P-TA final meeting of the year. The program after supper includes a short business session with a featured program and special music.
Waldo Held 77 a farmer from Hopewell township east of Lacon died at St Marys hospital Streator after a fall at his home. He was a director of the Tax school district helped build the current brick school and served 39 years in the community. He married Ines Thomas in 1899 and celebrated their golden anniversary. Survived by wife three children Thomas Conrad J Rowena Held Miller three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Rain continues delaying corn planting causing farmer unease though progress possible when fields dry. Farm Adviser Andy Harris suggests early maturing varieties for late planting to beat frost. Wheat oats and seedings improve with rain while rhinitis outbreaks threaten pig health and require caution to prevent spread.
Rev Charles A Bennett attends the Minois conference board of evangelism at Wesley Methodist Church Bloomington. Recommendations draft a conference wide united evangelism for fall and winter with half the conference on Oct 31 1952 and the other half on Jan 2 1953.

Edmund Quinn 85 died early Wednesday at his Henry home after a brief illness. Funeral services set for Friday at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Edward L. Gibson officiating. Interment in Henry city cemetery family lot. Friends may call Boose Funeral Home after 4 pm Thursday. A full obituary will follow next week.
Margie Hofer daughter of Mr and Mrs Louis Hofer Putnam Illinois is chosen by Henry unit 323 American Legion Auxiliary with Henry Senachwine High School to attend the 12th annual Mini Girls State at MacMurray College Jacksonville from June 24 to July 2 1952. She earns this honor for leadership character courage honesty cooperative ability and scholastic standing and has participated in chorus 4 H and student activities including queen of Fall Festival and class treasurer. She will study government and civic duties in a two party system and attend sessions on public speaking vocational training and forums while at MacMurray College. Relatives are invited to a Sunday service and Miss Hofer will report back in September on her impressions and learning.
Clifford Merchans and Thidian completed a Southwest tour visiting Kirtland AFB New Mexico to see their son in law S Sgt Bud Keegan and family. The trip extended through El Paso Juarez and Carlsbad Caverns before returning to Albuquerque with a stop in the Ozarks and an Indian Mountains rest.
Graduation exercises for the St Marys parochial school eighth grade will take place during the eight oclock mass on Sunday June 1. Names of graduates include Lorraine Kaliher Rose Marie Hoscheldt Patricia Ziegler Rita Merdian Rita Stange Winifred Kanraun Garth Reinbeck Albert Kapratth and Tom Bartman.
The Barre granite memorial in Lacon court house square will be dedicated Sunday May 25 at 2:30 PM with a 1:30 band concert by the Peoria American Legion Post No. 2 band. Gold Star mothers and spouses, county supervisors, and Marshall County Legion members will attend, with address by Anton B. Acker at Princeton.

Dr Anthony Marinacco will give the commencement address America and You, as awards and diplomas are presented by Principal Kenneth Brumm with the high school band providing music.

Salutatorian Jerry Dysart, daughter of Dr and Mrs Q Dysart. The Newer Five includes Tommy with 94.5 average, Jerry 93.3, George Neuhalsen 5 Pegey Fint geld 917, and Vernen Bog ner 615.
