The Henry High School Board agrees to participate in a county wide reorganization study. President Elmer Lord and Frank Adams will represent the school at Marshall County meetings and a Friday night session at the Lacon courthouse. Also named are Rev Jerry Elmore and the Henry Senachwine Citizens Council to discuss junior college development for the Thomas Valley area.
Marshall Putnam towns report sales tax receipts for December 1965. Henry city collection reached 3575.82, the highest monthly total on record. Lacan also posted strong gains, signaling robust local business activity.
BeIn Piatto daughter of Adolph Bolatto was Ictorian of the 1966 class at Hennepin High School with a 451 grade over four years. National Honor Society Library Club Latin Was class secretary and member of the basketball team. She plans to attend IVCC and then Illinois University to study Electrical Engineering. Miller son of et al was named member of the 1966 graduate class with 23 a. He served as class president and was active in the music and athletic programs. He plans to major in Electrical Engineering.
The Putnam Telephone Company expands with a new steel building for its central office and control station after purchasing land from Putnam Grain. Max Castner of Princeton is contractor. Ray Munks issues the permit. Ray Madsen is president. Orland Murphy secretary. Dial service will begin January 8, 1967, enabling direct-distance dialing for Putnam residents.
Henry's Ben Franklin store, successor to Wiedman, will have a grand opening Thursday May 26. The store will close May 23 24 and 25 for remodeling and stock expansion in sportswear knitting Infants wear hosiery stationery and housewares. New owners Harry Lander Sr and Hal Lander purchased the business March 1 1966 with Ron Siever as local manager and Nellie Brown Anna Patran Nelda Curlee Helen Ross Fran Schlosser Joyce Naeve assisting. new fixtures and a large Ben Franklin sign completed the upgrades.
James C. Reeves named production manager of the WA Grace agricultural fertilizer plant being built in Henry. He plans to move from Norfolk with his wife and their five children aged 7 to 15, plus his Ecuadorian parents-in-law, to Henry by August 1. Reeves seeks a five bedroom home in Henry. If available, residents should refer the lead to the Henry News-Republican.
James C Reeves is named Beatin manager of the rural fertilizer complex at Henry by W R Grace & Co. Reeves, a North Carolina State chemical engineering graduate, previously served as production manager for Dassian Division fertilizer plants in North Carolina and Virginia. Foundations for the ammonia terminal facility and granulation plant at Henry proceed, with completion aimed for early 1967 and annual capacity of 100 000 tons.
Holy Day of Obligation observed tomorrow with Masses at St Marys 6 8 am and at St Josephs 7 9 am. Due to harsh weather pastors permit continuing regular manual labor as needed.
Funeral services were held for Ralph Pettow 58 Peoria who died Saturday at St Francis hospital. Pettow born June 26 1907 in Fermington was married in Peoria in 1957 to Sarah Pettow. He leaves a daughter Mrs Claude Spitinuin and two granddaughters. a sister Melvin Hanlon of Middle Grove. a brother and a son preceded him in death. He was a member of St Philomenas Mens Club and Peoria County Farm Bureau. Visitation and church rites were conducted by Wright and Salmon Mortuaries with Rees Mortuary of Henry in charge.
Rt. Rev. Francis W Lickfield presided at the 89th Synod of the Diocese of Quincy held in Galesburg. A constitutional amendment allowing women as delegates to the Synod was rejected by both clergy and lay delegates.
Funeral services for Robert G. Heminghouse of Putnam will be held Thursday at 2 PM at Boose funeral home with Rev Kenneth Whiles officiating and Masonic rites by Henry Lodge No 119. The 81 year old former Rock Island brakeman died Tuesday noon at St Margarets hospital Spring Valley. He is survived by his wife Bessie Grace Journagan and was laid to rest in Putnam cemetery after visitation 7 to 9 PM Wednesday.
Wayne Winship of Putnam announces a joint meeting with Henry grade school and Henry-Senachwine high school on Monday June 13 at the Henry grade school. The public session will explore interest in possible district consolidation in the Henry Putnam area.
Sparland superintendent Fred Eihausen announces the top five seniors for the 1966 class. Valedictorian James Russelson has a 4.6625 GPA and will enter Blackburn College pre veterinary studies. Salutatorian Michael McCuskey carries a 4.00 GPA and plans pre law studies at Illinois State University. The trio is joined by Jerry Hond Janet Davis and Myra Batensiefen in the top five.
Dr Irwin Cochran director of the University of Illinois Bureau of Business Management will speak Thursday evening June 16 at the Henry Chamber of Commerce annual meeting. He is well acquainted with Henry through prior Chamber consultation and a University of Illinois community survey.
J and L Steel awards a food service contract to Aurora United Food Management Services Inc a subsidiary of Interstate United of Lincolnwood. Aurora will supply mobile food service on site during construction and operate a commissary at the plant after production starts. The firm is outfitting a mobile unit in William Symmonds garage in Bureau with meals prepared during construction and transported by truck across the river.
