Memorial rites honor Pfc. John T. Schmitt at St Marys Henry
Memorial services for Private First Class John Taylor Schmitt were held at St Marys Church in Henry on May 16. The service featured Rev Fr Andrew Schauer and a large turnout from the American Legion and Boy Scouts. Schmitt, of Henry, Minnesota, died March 13 1945 on Iwo Jima as a member of the Fifth Marine Division. He was married to Bette Willan and left a wife and son Johnnie, plus parents and a brother in the Navy, with many relatives offering thanks and prayers.

A memorial service was held Sunday at 3 pm in Henry Presbyterian Church for Private Gilligan who died serving in Germany in April. Lostant Lady Emma Dore Buried After Illness
Emma Dore 76 lifelong Lostant resident died at Spring Valley Hospital after a three week heart illness. Born September 20 in Putnam County to Fredolin Wolfe and Clara Mercian Wolfe she married Philip Dose who died last year. Survived by three children Albert Julius and Joseph Shorn, with funeral at Mt Palatine Catholic Church northwest of Lostant and burial in the parish cemetery. A meeting at city hall organized the Menry Cesspool Company with George Ziegler elected president and Albert Barth as secretary treasurer. Over sixty stockholders pay 25 dollars per share for access to truck and equipment, to be used for cleaning cesspools and for city jobs at nominal charges. A May 17 stockholders meeting in Henry will decide on further stock sales and operations begin once equipment is ready. Wid Henkins of Terry leads the truck and crew.
