Local Boys Stage Fox Hunt on Farm South of Town
A group of local boys hunted foxes last Sunday afternoon on the Barney Mercian farm south of town. Four foxes were killed and five more were sighted. Participants included Donald Enhalfen John Neuha ten Clifford Maupin Art O'Brien Clifford Lopeman Leon Mattingly and Alvin Hageman.

Albert Newman obituary recalled as devoted husband and father
The community mourns Albert Newman who died May 10, 1946 after a five month illness following two operations. Born July 13, 1864 in Henry Illinois, he lived most of his life on the family farm, retired in 1941 to Henry, was married Jan 3 1894 to Sarah Mae Sallisbury and had six children. Services were held May 13 at the Henry Methodist Church with interment at Henry Cemetery and numerous relatives attending.

Tragic Bailey Fire Claims Publisher and Family
John W Bailey III longtime publisher of The Bureau County Republican died early Monday in a house fire six miles southeast of Princeton. He saved his wife Mary before perishing while attempting to reach his children John and Nancy who were elsewhere in the home. Mrs Bailey escaped with injuries after leaping to a concrete platform and fleeing through smoke and flames with help from neighbors and fire crews.
