Swaney alumni plan 50th reunion Sunday
The Swaney school alumni association plans the 50th anniversary reunion for Sunday June 2. A committee met to arrange a campus program with principal speaker James from Washington and speaker Mabel Carey from Illinois. The event honors Swaney School’s 1906 founding and its pioneer donor John Swaney, who donated land and funds.

The B F Goodrich Chemical Company on Tuesday started construction of a $5 million plant north of Henry. Mayor John H Wagner urged a 90 minute city shutdown for the ceremony attended by press, radio, and about 200 residents. The event featured a giant Caterpillar bulldozer and remarks by Vice President Robert D Scott. Officials noted Goodrich will use Blaw Knox as general contractor and will transport executives by private planes from Akron to Peoria for the stay. The city’s infrastructure also saw lines installed by General Telephone and Cilco electric company support for the plant.
