Downtown Improvement Dinner Issues
An important downtown improvement dinner meeting will be held at 6 30 p m May 20 at Saint Marys Community Center. The public is invited. A buffet dinner catered by Kaszynskis of Peru will be served. Tickets are 4 00 for all you can eat reservations due May 16 at the Henry Chamber of Commerce office. William Rutherford will show slides and explain benefits of downtown improvements with General Design Partnership Greenville planners present. Mayor Phil Smith and City Council members plan to attend.

Ames Named Works Manager at J and L Hennepin Works
Thomas T. Ames was appointed Works Manager at the Hennepin Works of Jones and Laughlin Steel. He succeeds James E. Eakin who becomes Works Manager of the Pittsburgh Works. Ames joined J and L in 1963 and has held multiple plant management roles in New Kensington Niles and Conduit Division.

Children's Book Showcase travels to new library
At Henry Public Library a three week display of the 1975 Children’s Book Showcase drew many readers and voting. On May 8 three fourth grade classes browsed titles and cast ballots for preferred books led by display committee member Mrs. Almira Clark. First choice was Lost in the Storm by Carol Carrick with Donald Carrick illustrations, followed by Don’t Feel Sorry for Paul by Bernard Wolf, The Stupids Step Out by Harry Allard with James Marshall, Owliver by Robert Kraus with Ariane Dewey, Figgs and Phantoms by Ellen Raskin, and Albert’s Toothache by Barbara Williams with Kay Chora.

Steer Struck and Killed on Route 29 Near Oaks
A steer was killed on Route 29 near the Oaks around 1 15 p m Friday May 9 after cattle strayed onto the highway. Walter Van Ostrand aged 69 of Route 1 Henry could not avoid the animal while traveling south. Cattle belonged to Leonard Colgan. Deputy Ron Berg of Marshall County investigated.

Mid County Joins National Honor Society
Mid County Senior High School becomes a NHS member with juniors and seniors eligible for nomination. Students must meet a 430 average and be rated by faculty on leadership character and service. Two excellent ratings are needed for nomination. final approval rests with the Mid-County Chapter Council led by Assistant Principal Mr Baylor. A later article will note inducted members. The May 19 Marshall County Bicentennial Commission meeting is canceled and a new time will be announced.

Open House and Dedication at St John’s Parish Hall
Dedication of the new Parish Hall of St John’s Episcopal Church in Henry will be held Sunday May 18 at 3pm with Rt Rev Donald Parsons of Peoria presiding, assisted by Rev Eugene Combs. Henry Senachwine Spring Concert Presented by High School
Henry Senachwine High School presents Spring Concert 1975 featuring the Superior rated Symphonic Band. Peter Paolucci of Lacon won the runoff for associate judge in the 10th judicial circuit. He led the field of 13 candidates, as Robert E. Illinois State Employment Service will send a representative to the Marshall County Public Aid Office in Henry each Thursday from 9:00 to 12:00.
