Readers describe a largely orderly gathering with delegates settling nominations. The event featured a high keynote, drum music, and a tense but controlled atmosphere as officers were announced and candidates considered for nomination.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary unit plan a house to house canvass on May 16 and 17 to raise funds for the Cancer Drive. Mrs Klein is listed as president and the effort aims to secure generous contributions from the community for this worthy cause.
May 24 marks Poppy Day in Henry and nationwide, organized by American Legion Auxiliary Henry unit 323 led by Mrs. Klein. Workers including Mrs. Mattern, Mrs. Wagner, local students, and Auxiliary members will distribute red crepe paper poppies to honor war dead and raise funds for disabled veterans and veteran children.
The Rev. Fr. Howard W. Brummitt of St. John's Episcopal Church was appointed rural dean of the Peoria deanery by Rt. Rev. William L. Essex during the 75th annual Episcopal Diocese of Quincy synod in Quincy last week. He will supervise missionary activities in the Peoria area, with Mrs. Brummitt and others representing the church at the synod.
Sparland high school announces valedictorian Miss Gloria McConnell with a four year average of 4.53 and salutatorian Jeanne Wallace, both noted for strong scholastic and extracurricular achievements under Superintendent G E B Jones and Miss Gloria Wallace.
Sgt. Bud Keegan, four years in the U S Air Force including eight months in Germany, will be released Friday. He has worked in personnel at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque NM. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Francis Keegan of Henry and his wife Janice Mercian is a daughter of Mr and Mrs Clifford Niergien of Henry.
Dr Anthony Marinaccio named as commencement speaker for Henry Senachyine high school. He may discuss "America and You" in a speech reflecting his prior roles as assistant superintendent and past speaker at the Marshall county teachers institute.
The Kelly Morris circus, sponsored by St Marys Catholic church, comes to Marshall Putnam fair grounds on Friday May 16 with Big Blanche the 11000 pound elephant from Cole Bros and Miss Gladys Gill the only female lion trainer. Two shows at 4 pm and 8 pm feature trained acts, clowns, and refreshments as the public is invited to watch animal feeding starting in the morning. Tickets available through St Marys church members Brennan’s Watercolt’s and Meridian’s Drug.
A curbstone meeting near Keegan and Bergantz barber shop in Henry gathered fair association executives to discuss plans for the upcoming event. Halsey Mo nier, Carl Otto, Clinton Lundgren, and Delbert Marshall attended as department superintendents and assistants. Lundgren reported trophies for the hog department are being secured and noted first two firms Varna Auto Service and Kenneth Holmstrom trucking service have contributed trophies.
Mr and Mrs Tom Clark and family will occupy a new basement house they are constructing on a lot recently acquired from Mrs Ale Clark. Excavation work is underway by Magno somy, with James Bickerlin handling framing. Completion expected soon, address listed as 6e.

Magnolia-Swaney consolidated high prepares a May 25 baccalaureate and May 28 commencement in the M S gym at 8 p m DST. Rev Fr Charles DeWitte will deliver the baccalaureate address and Maurice J Galbraith will speak at commencement.
Janice Lopeman daughter of Mr and Mrs John Lopeman of Sparland won a Henry theater Miss Sunbeam contest among ten contestants. She will travel to Ottawa tonight to compete with winners from eight Illinois sections for a national prize in New York City.
City Clerk A B Child of Henry reported the season opened with Cal Schlosser as the first customer for fishing licenses Monday May 12. The scene noted typical availability and the start of license sales for residents.
Bryan Williams, longtime Scout movement figure, visited the Henry office to outline local activities. The Henry unit shows strong staffing with a full troop committee and Explorer scouts forming a new unit. upcoming events include a Camporee near Lacon and a Wakanda camp for older boys.
Francis Keegans begin building a new residence beside their current large house. The Owens Construction Company of YWFesnourn is in charge, with basement excavation 12 feet progressing this week as the Keegans plan to move into the smaller new home once complete.
Sam Matters of Henry is Section V dairy production winner in the FFA at the Wyoming Community High School sectional meet. His records advance to the district contest at Manlius, with results not yet reported. Other winners include David Kieser of Wyoming in Star State Farmer candidate, and Arthur Strauch Washburn electrification, Bernard Real Bradford water management, and Harry Coons Verona soybean production.
Vacation Bible School begins June 11 and runs through June 13 in Henry. Sponsored by the Christian, Methodist and Presbyterian churches, it offers instruction and recreation for children from preschool to grade 8, with sessions daily 9 to 11 a.m. and a closing program June 13.
For the first time in 13 years the Henry area school boards opened bids for bus transportation for a two year period starting September 1952. Proposals must show cost and equipment type and be sealed by June 10 1952. Existing operators Morse and Smith submitted offers. bids will be opened to all qualified bidders.
Marshall county prepares a memorial dedication for service men and women to take place May 25 at 2 30 p.m. in Lacon court house square. The Barre granite shaft arrival is pending with footings in place. Wilford A Nelson leads the program with a national anthem and patriotic songs.
The Henry Senachwine P-TA will hold its final meeting of the 1951-52 school year next Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the school gym. A pot luck supper is planned with Mrs. Dale Van DeVeer as chair and committee members including Mesdames Keith Blackburn Tom Longman and William Koehler. The program includes a brief business session and installation of 1952-53 officers: O. P. Child president Mrs Jco Quinn vice president Mrs Clar ken secretary and Dayne K Farr treasurer. Group singing and special music will be performed, with Miss Mary EsturiWer and Miss Jeanne Forney providing numbers. John Boose will lead community singing. Retiring officers are Mrs Roy Forney president Mrs Leo Quinn vice president Hard Fint geld secretary and Dayne Farr treasurer.
The Henry Happy Hustlers 4-H club will hold an organization meeting in the director's room at the Farm Bureau building at 8 pm on Thursday May 15. All girls 10 to 20 and their mothers are invited. The club will be led this year by Mia, Bert Derry, Mrs George, Zleglos, and Cero Brown.
