Knox County treasurer reports 28 percent collection in Galesburg while Marsky bounty totals reach 433685.14 with 50 percent of yearly tax due. Olson and Miss Thiedohr praise strong early payment under two payment plan as many taxpayers in Magy Soo tae 4% area advance payments.
The Henry Community War Chest held a Friday meeting to map further steps for a central Park memorial honoring Henry residents who served. Leaders seek civic and religious backing to boost funds, with the city council pledging later support for erection and maintenance in Central Park opposite the Child Service Station. Mrs J E Dauber chairs the committee. Mrs Adolph C Lindbloom serves as treasurer.
A fourth air raid alert is scheduled for 5 30 a m on May 25. The test aims to improve warning systems and communications and will practice operating procedures with simulated raids. The Henry Defense Council will meet Monday evening May 17 at 7 30 at the Duke Brothers store for preparations.

The Florid School in Putnam County closed for the year with a May 9 pot luck lunch attended by Florid and Union Grove district patrons. Pupils from all grades presented plays songs and recitations. Eighth graders received diplomas. seventh graders promoted. County Supt. Kennedy praised local mothers in Armed Forces Day remarks and presented diplomas to Arlene Grosenbach Margaret Louise Reavy Howard Schrowang and promotion certificate to Robert Clemens.
Marshall County War Price and Rationing Board chair C. C. McKee explains sugar allotments for home canning and preserves. Eligible residents may receive up to 26 pounds per person with five pounds for jams and jellies. applications after May 15 require War Ration Book details and project totals.
Emily Wescott widow of William L. Wescott died May 6 at her Lacon home after months of illness. Born May 23, 1864, she was a longtime community figure, former Lac on Alderman Miriam Challoner and five grandchildren survive. Memorial services were held at her Lacon home with Rev. Paul Sharpe officiating.

The eighth grade of Henry Grade School will hold commencement exercises Wednesday evening May 19 at 8 at the school gymnasium. William Scott Sutton of Peoria will speak on Great Men Whom I Have Known. In a basement meeting of the Methodist Church with representatives from Presbyterian Christian and Methodist churches, a daily vacation Bible school was approved to run June 1 through June 13 with a Sunday evening program. Rev. W F Powell chaired. Rev. Richard E. Pritchard named general chairman and Rev. George H. Wilson directed advertising. Over 20 staff and more than 100 students expected. sessions run weekdays 9 am worship then two classes and crafts, four age groups, using all three churches for departments. Meals and activities include a May 28 kickoff, June 11 finish, June 12 picnic, and June 13 closing program.
Henry County events feature Revi Powell arguing for labor empathy and industrial reform while Rev Powell and Rev Pritchard host lectures. Awards at Henry Public School include a D A R flag for Mary Hauber and Legion plaques for Albert Cronkrite amid a parochial school balance.
