Former Magnolia resident Gurnea died at his home on West 48th Street in Los Angeles California at age 78. He was a son of Mr and Mrs An Tew B Gurnes early Magnolians and taught at Magnolia High and Grammar Schools. His widow was Helen Fyffe a pioneer Magnolia family member. One former pupil R W Spencer now in the printing business at Riverside recalls his earlier teaching days.

A philatelist named Henry Thomason claims a letter he arranged should reach him via the Hindenburg’s first flight in 1937. He sent funds to the postmaster at Frederikshaven Germany to secure delivery after the airship’s crash at Lakehurst New Jersey.
