At the annual meeting of the Henry cemetery association officers were elected: President Verne Duffield Vice President Mark Kaya Secretary Treasurer Eva Hufendick who was re elected. Other board members are Edna Stoner Guy Child and Mrs Charles Knight. Reports showed the organization in good financial condition and funds for improvements were discussed.
Funeral services for Mrs Walter Forbes 57 of Saratoga township are tentatively planned for Friday at a Wyoming funeral home. Coroner Roy Brown of Varna conducted an inquest and ruled she took her own life after a period of ill health. Survived by her husband and four grown children.
Joe Butler moves from Henry based Kroger to Spring Valley Kroger and becomes meat department manager replacing Jake DeWalt who transfers to Morris. The Butler family will take the DeWalts’ vacated house.
Flower lovers are drawn to St Mary's parish grounds by two flowering crab trees in full bloom. The trees, planted about four years ago, appear to be in their prime this year.
Barney Ghigileri 55 longtime Toluca banker and former president of the Illinois Bankers Association died at 9 30 PM after a heart attack at an American Legion hall gathering. A respected figure, he led local development, served with Rotary and Knights of Columbus, and advised the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. He left a wife Marie Supan and three children, with deep impact across Marshall and Putnam counties.
A May 5 to May 10 Toluca gathering for St Anne’s parishioners turned somber when Barney Ghigileri collapsed during a welcome speech at the American Legion hall. Priests and mourners prayed at his bedside as the event shifted from celebration to funeral prayers for the dying man.
