Firefighters were summoned to the home of Rev and Mrs HH Dusenberry on a Wednesday morning after smoke was seen from the attic. Neighbors helped remove furniture and a new fire truck assisted as flames were put out within minutes. Cause undetermined but thought to be roof sparks.
Miss Marion Thomas won a silver medal in the declamation event at the Bradley contest on Saturday. Pekin took first, Henry second, Washburn third, and La Salle-Peru fourth. Thomas will enter first class at the county contest in Varna on May 18th and 49th.
Plans are under way to launch a Clean Up and Paint Up Campaign May 14 to May 19 to clean streets alleys vacant lots homes and business buildings. The campaign is a long established activity in over 7 000 U S cities with clear benefits.
Mr and Mrs J A Williams left yesterday to visit relatives in Philadelphia. Rev Dusenberry and family will occupy their home until their return.
Mrs F E Fuller of this city will sing from the broadcasting station Wf at 7 o'clock on Wednesday evening May 16. The program is part of the Du Roc Jersey Show with $200 in prizes split between the National Duroc Jersey Record Association and the Fair Association. Local Duroc Jersey breeders of Marshall and Putnam counties will be notified.

A baby girl named Mary was born on Sunday May 6 at the home of Mr and Mrs Dennis Landers. The newborn adds a sister for their older child and brings joy to the household.
Public meeting set for Wednesday at 7 30 in city hall to decide if Henry will host the Fourth of July event. American Legion abstains this year, urging business leaders and the public to attend to determine if celebrations proceed.

Mrs. Johanna Ryan’s seven to eight room Grove home was totally destroyed by a fire started around eleven o’clock Wednesday evening. Neighbors aided in efforts to save nearby homes but flames overwhelmed the structure before Bradford firemen arrived. Mrs. Ryan, her son, and a granddaughter lived there. some insurance covered the loss, while saved household goods were moved to the O'Brien hall.
Stanley Allen died at Lacon shortly after dinner and passed away within minutes. A longtime newspaper employee, he worked for Henry Times and Burt & Son, later editing at Henry Republican before joining the Lacon Home Journal. He never married and leaves a brother in Michigan and a sister in a western state.
A meeting will be held at City Hall next Tuesday evening to organize a building and loan association in Henry. Pledges for shares have been obtained and officers and directors will be elected to start business. All interested are urged to attend.
State Commander Schickles urged Rev W J Carpenter to hold special Mother s Day services at Christian Church on Sunday May 13. Ex service men will gather at 10 30 am and march in a body to the church for a commemorative sermon.
The French government awarded posthumously the Medaille Militaire on May 8 to two American aviators Alan M Ash of Urbana Indiana and Alan Nichols of Palo Alto California. Ash, brother of Lawrence Ash and Howard J. Ash, died serving with the Lafayette Escadrille in World War I.
Caroline A Lytle was born November 10 1887 in Washington county Pennsylvania and died May 6 1923 in Bureau county Trmoj Ohio at age 85 years 6 months and 26 days. She married Joseph Greenlee July 3 1862 in Saratoga township and they had one son Charles Greenlee. The family settled in Saratoga township where the farm remains in the family. She valued home and family above all.
Miss Frances Elizabeth Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs A B Smith wed Percy Edward Stocking of Chicago in a Presbyterian church ceremony at four o clock Tuesday. Attendants John McAllister and Gordon Downey escorted guests as Curtiss Bush er and his wife provided music and Rev H G Dusenberry officiated before an apple blossom and rose motif altar.
A merged notice describes the new bank building in Saratoga with decorators and marble workers finishing interiors and offices for Dr. C. M. Nielsen. Mrs. Greenlee, widow of the original builder, dies, leaving a son Charles and granddaughter Mrs. Li Sic Meihsner, with funeral held at her old home.
