Ingenuity Wins At Stand ard Service Station Pumping Feat
Francis Britton, operator of the Standard Service station on Third Street, solved gas pumping without electricity by tying a rear wheel shaft to the pump and starting the car in high gear. He pumped about 1,100 gallons Saturday and Sunday. Britton now has a Delco power plant from Willis Taylor to power lights and two pumps with direct current motors, allowing indefinite operation without mains electricity.

The Prairie Farms Creamery of Henry will begin operations on Monday May 27 in a new Front Street plant. Cream and creamer milk will be handled daily with trucks to collect twice weekly and daily farm pickups. George R. Curtiss, longtime owner and publisher of the El Paso Journal, died May 2 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bloomington Illinois. He led the paper for nearly six decades after moving from Henry where his family had lived for years. He began in printing in El Paso and bought the journal.
