The article notes 109 boys aged 8 to 15 have signed up for a summer baseball program with Little, Farm, and Pony League teams. An organizational meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday May 6 at Henry Grade School to elect leaders for the coming season.
The annual MS Hope Chest drive is announced for Tuesday May 17 across the United States. Co chairs Mrs tarry Lord Mrs Mark Tawney and Mrs John Stroope urge door to door calls and business visits for MS research care and patient aid. Area captains listed and Ray Watson leads canteens and Henry business drive the week of May 17.
Jean Bjorling, granddaughter of Mr and Mrs George Mathis, is named a Merit Scholar from Illinois. She qualified among 146 scholars, completed her final test in November, and will graduate in June from Reve Unit High School. She plans to attend Gustavus College at St Peter Minnesota.
In a unanimous decision 1770 to 0 the Hennepin Mutual Telephone stockholders vote to sell to General Telephone for 160000 with the company retaining cash working capital. A committee will plan asset distribution after the sale while General plans a May 1 1967 dial conversion and June 1 take over.
Hennepin approves zoning changes and a 2000 acre annexation plan surrounding the village. J and L steel contracts go to Whitehead and Kales Co with other bids pending. New board leadership includes Engelbrecht as chair Colby as vice chair Moore as secretary treasurer Edgerley as member Judd leads the water district Plapperts named vice chair Bassi treasurer Munks secretary Boyle attorney. Maine and Vermont gain natural gas service. Hawaii remains without service.

Dan and Helen Gibbs of Whitefield Township acquire the Tuttle Grocery on Route 29 at the west edge of Henry after 17 years under the Tuttles. Clarence Tuttle remains as proprietor of the adjacent Tuttle Shell Service station. Charles Combs of Marseilles will be the new meat cutter as the Gibbses plan to run the store with similar operations. The Gibbs family will stay active in farming and local affairs.

Cleveland based Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp reports first quarter 1966 income of 13.4 million dollars or 1.65 per share, down from 1965. Shipments totaled 1.3 million tons with sales about 239 million, as imports rise and labor costs increase. Chairman Beeghly cites potential steadier 1966 operations and greater foreign competition concerns.
J L representatives urged U S government agencies to consider quantitative restrictions on steer imports while stressing that foreign steel producers should not earn politically derived advantages over American producers. Beeghly touted cost cutting through new technology as essential while J L reported rising second quarter production and an optimistic outlook for a strong year. Planned improvements at Hennepin and Aliquippa mills, new furnaces, a three-furnace shop, and enhanced rolling and annealing facilities were outlined, with a public tour of Cleveland works offered after the meeting.
