Captain Freeman of Broadanday is promoted to major with seven oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross for 50 combat missions with the Marauders. He joined the pioneer group that flew to England and took part in missions against Nazi occupied France Bel and Holland. Freeman, from Antonio Texas, is a 1938 graduate and former president of Marshall Putnam Co.

Lieutenant Abbott Completes Flight Instructors Course
Lieutenant J W Abbott son of Mr and Mrs J W Abbott of this city completed a six weeks instructors course at San Antonio Texas last Wednesday and was sent back to Stuttgart Ark where he had received his commission and wings to start instructing. Abbott whose wife has been with him both at Stuttgart and San Antonio was manager of the Standard Oil distributing plant in LaSalle before becoming a lieutenant in the army air corps.

Woman's Diocesan Synod Highlights Grace Church Meeting
The 57th annual synod of the Woman's Diocese of Quincy met at Grace Episcopal Church in sburg WI on May 2 with about 250 clergy and visitors. Rt Rev Essex presided over the morning session. the afternoon featured a Diocesan banquet at 6 30 PM and a program at the Grace Church auditorium. Officers were elected including Seiffert president Sivell vice president Beckstrom secretary Ebaugh treasurer and Miss Gladys Liv secretary delegation.

Memorial services planned for Wayne Warner

THREE HANK BROTHERS VISIT HOME DURING WEEKEND
Three Hank brothers Private First Class Clarence Sonny Hank Sergeant Harold Hank and Corporal William Hank visited Henry relatives during the past week. Harold stayed a couple days while Sonny and William remained longer and will return to Camp Hale Independence air base in South Carolina next week. They joined Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs Bennie Merdian their sister Mrs Merdian and guests Veronica Armbruster Henry Hank Christina Hank Edith Schlosser and Marjorie Schlosser. William Sonny and Harold have served two and a half years, nearly two years, and a year and a half respectively and are well regarded.

Army Boats Spend Night At Henry On River Voyage
Army patrol craft spent Tuesday night at Henry, with three boats continuing to Peoria before heading to New Orleans. Commanders George and August Gerster led crews that included sailors with active war service. Residents visited the riverfront while a Canadian boat traversed the Great Lakes, the Illinois River, and the Gulf of Mexico en route to South America for bananas.
