Severe wind and hail storm causes widespread damage in Illinois
A violent wind hail and rainstorm swept Illinois and the middle west Monday causing uprooted trees damaged roofs and broken windows. Power lines were down along Western avenue prompting an emergency crew repair and power was restored before 7 pm. Sparland Peoria route 29 Putnam and areas north reported considerable damage to trees buildings barns and outbuildings from the storm. The accompanying hail caused little crop damage as crops were not yet large enough.

Windstorm Tears Through Sparland Damaging Homes
A Monday wind and rainstorm caused extensive damage in Sparland and surrounding areas. Large trees toppled onto houses, a kitchen roof was punctured, porches and columns were damaged, windows shattered at a school, and a houseboat on the state preserve was nearly destroyed. Mrs Alicia Brenneman formerly of Hennepin Township died in Los Angeles and was cremated. Her ashes were scattered over the Pacific from an airplane, a ceremony similar to that held for her husband Oscar Brenneman who died four years ago. Farmers are working long hours to follow the favorable weather for field work. Oats and barley were seeded late due to wet conditions. Orine Denne pin and Frank Wilson of Sparland sought corn late last week. Others planted sod ground earlier this week.
