He led state and national Granges, advised on wartime domestic issues, and helped establish farm institutes. Funeral Saturday in Magnolia with Friends Society services.

A new Buick with defective lighting went off a curve near Sparland at 9 PM, rolling five to six times down a 30 foot embankment. A large touring car left the road near the Sparland coal mine Sunday evening and struck a cement bridge before plunging into a ditch. Lights failed during the crash and it is unclear if anyone was injured. The vehicle suffered major damage including a broken wheel and bent axle.
