A Putnam area farmer Mrs Al a Miller supplied corn stalks to a New England paper venture. A Princeton Fellow offered 26 tons per acre, bale was in operation and stalks shipped to Iowa for pulping. The plan aimed to diversify income from fields and revive stalk paper production with hopes of better results than earlier attempts.

The Pontiac High School presented the Pontiac Gym Circus on March 22 23 and 24 drawing performers from area schools. Miss Mary Elizabeth Hofferkamp was crowned queen as 65 towns sent attendees and 2000 pupils attended the dress rehearsal. Local residents and MP Oil Company guests attended with many from Henry and Varna areas.

Mrs. James Jason 45 of Hopewell Township died suddenly on Wednesday afternoon after resting briefly in her home. She is survived by her husband and 15 children. Lenz Brothers of Lacon in charge of funeral arrangements. several relatives in Amboy and Menota visited afterward.

W. G. Griffith Dies Prominent McNabb Farmer
W. G. Griffith a longtime McNabb farmer and educator leader in Marshall and Putnam Counties died after a stroke and illness. Funeral services were held at the Griffith homestead with Friends group in charge. interment at Clear Creek Meeting Cemetery. He hosted a seed business, led rural school consolidation, helped form the Marshall Putnam Farm Bureau, and supported athletics and soil improvement throughout Illinois. He married Fannie G. Smith in 1886 and leaves eight children and sixteen grandchildren.

Continental Grain to Build Large River Elevator
The Continental Grain Company of Chicago will start construction within two weeks of a large grain elevator on the south bank of the Illinois River opposite LaSalle. It will handle 50,000 bushels daily and cost forty to fifty thousand dollars. The firm already operates elevators at Peoria, Avans and Liverpool and a 4,000,000 bushel facility at St. Louis.

Henry School Band Wins First at Sterling Contest
The Henry high school band a 90 piece ensemble and the largest entry won first place in Class D at the Southern Illinois contest in Sterling.
