Fire Department Expands Inspections to Public Buildings

Quinn Accepts Insurance Post with IAA in Pontiac Territory

Roger Quinn resigns from Marshall Putnam Oil effective April 1 to join IAA Insurance as an insurance salesman in the Pontiac area. He starts April 10 and will live in Pontiac with his wife Betsy McLaughlin. M D Tutt, ex IAA manager in Marshall and Putnam counties, becomes IAA manager in Livingston county and also assumes Pontiac duties on April 1.

George Ziegler Jr Buys Bradford Republican Paper

George Ziegler Jr of Henry Illinois has purchased the Bradford Republican weekly newspaper and printing plant in Stark County. He will take over this Saturday and move operations to Bradford after the school year ends. Fulks will assist during the transition. Mrs Ziegler is Lillian Gibbs of Sparland.

Contract Awarded For Illinois Route 17 Resurfacing

The Illinois Division of Highways awarded a $94,073 contract to resurface 4.46 miles of Illinois Route 17 west of Sparland. Separately, social notes mention Mr and Mrs Ray Smith hosting Mr and Mrs Arthur Smith Sr and Mr and Mrs Burdette Johnson visiting the Smith home on Thursday.

The Putnam Grain Company marked 50 years of service with an annual meeting at the Putnam town hall. A ham supper preceded the session. Don E McWard was named president of the Marshall Putnam chapter of the American Cancer Society at a luncheon in Henry. 76 Degrees Sunday Readings Hit High for Season

The mercury rose to 76 degrees on Sunday, the season’s highest so far. Saturday and Monday peaked at 68, while the week’s low of 28 was recorded Wednesday morning.

Requiem Mass Friday for Minnie Bickerman at St Marys

The Rev Laurence Schumacher officiated at the High Mass of Requiem at St Marys church at 10 am Friday March 24 for Miss Minnie C Bickerman who died March 22 1961 after a brief illness at St Francis hospital Peoria Ill. Interment was in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews Vir Wil Bogner C F Meridian and Harry Ziegler and Theodore Bogner Art OBrien and Ivan Barry. The Ries Mortuary handled arrangements and friends called there until service time.

Bart Wier Robbed of 600 Dollars at Henry Dump

Two men robbed Bart Wier at the Henry city dump on East Third Street about 2.45 Tuesday afternoon. A swarthy man in a white car exited, asked the time, then grabbed Wier’s wallet as he reached for his watch and fled. Deputy Sheriff James Evans and Ralph Child investigated.

Reader Suggests Journal Star Cartoon On Hold Up

Ronald Johnson of Henry called the News Republican with a tip that the Peoria Journal Star artist Walt Ziegler should sketch the hold up suspect. The plan aims to capture the man who took $600 from Bart Weir at the Henry dumping ground Tuesday afternoon. The artist would interview Weir to guide a public sketch. The Journal Star recently drew a lead that helped capture a man wanted in Peoria.

Henry Athletic Banquet Set With Guest Speaker

Henry Post 323 American Legion schedules its annual athletic banquet for next Tuesday night at the Legion building. Alvie Gebhardt will be guest speaker. Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie I Becker 67 mother of Mrs. Anna Ziegler Henry and former Granville resident will be at 10 am Wednesday at Sacred Heart in Granville Burial follows in Granville cemetery Mrs Becker died Sunday at her Colorado Springs home she was born March 14 1894 She married Adolph Mekley in 1913 and survived by five daughters two brothers and twelve grandchildren.
