Varna Merchants Form The Varna Merchants Association
A new Varna organization emerged last Monday night as the Varna Merchants Association gathered a strong turnout at Morris grocery. Oliver B. Extrem was named president with Walter Martin as secretary and C. G. Jenkins as treasurer. A three member committee–W. G. Smith, C. M. Hurt, Fred Martyne–was chosen to draft bylaws. The group planned monthly meetings and discussed credit issues, calling the event a promising start for Varna’s mercantile history.

Eight year old Edgar Keitz tan in Varna road accident
Edgar Keitz tan aged 8 was struck on Hard Road east of Varna while returning from school. He suffered a broken left arm and leg, multiple bruises, and a head wound but survived after being treated at Streator hospital. The driver acted with due caution and rendered aid.

Henry High Juniors Win Inter Class Basketball Tournament
Friday night the Henry High Junior team captured the inter class title after routing the Freshmen 18 6 and the Sophomores 44 18. The Seniors took second place by beating both Freshmen and Sophomores while the Freshmen beat the Sophomores 11 4 in a final, season ending round. Coach Gamble awarded letters to players including captain Lawrence Donahue and Rodney Brown with others named. Box scores will be published next week.

Rock Island Starts Work to Rebuild Gimlet Hollow Bridge
