Parish Adoration Mass and Holy Week Services

A series of Tuesday evening services and solemn liturgies marked by devotion at Mary parish. Rev Msgr James B Reidy Rev Fr Francis AoF Rev Fr Michael Had led celebrations with visiting clergy from numerous parishes. Altar society and parish ladies prepared a reception in the creational room. A religious film "You Age the World" followed the liturgy with Father Schumacher and local pastors joining in prayerful observance.

Census Enumerators Named for Marshall Putnam Counties

Joseph Sudow of Peoria announced the 17th decennial census enumerators for Marshall and Putnam counties. Seventeen enlistment letters were mailed with training set for 8 a.m. March 27 at the Farm Bureau building in Henry.

Obituary for Arthur E. Smith Scheduled Funeral Services

An obituary notes Arthur E. Smith died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Fr. Harold Holt officiating. He is survived by his wife. Calls and arrangements are pending at the funeral home, with more details to be published next week.

Local 4-H meeting leads to two division spring rally plan

Jeine Marshall presides over a Farr Bureau gathering on Tuesday March 21 with 26 federation members and junior leaders. After a brief business session, 4-Hers tested games for use at spring rallies. The annual rally will have two divisions at Swaney school gym Friday March 24 and Lacon school gym Saturday March 25.

Lake Forest Singers to Perform in Henry

The Lake Forest College Madrigal Singers and the Men’s Chorus will give a concert at Henry Presbyterian Church in Henry on Wednesday evening March 29 at 8 p.m. Forty members perform with Walter Ward as a soloist. guests will stay with Henry residents and return for a high school assembly on March 30 at 10 a.m.

District IAA Meeting in Henry Reviews Grain and Milk Marketing

R V McKee of Varna presided over delegates from five counties at the Henry farm near building gathering. Cecil Musser outlined grain marketing developments ahead of tomorrow’s Springfield meeting. Jud Mason discussed milk marketing and Prairie Farms Creamery ties. Eugene Stadel noted cooperative marketing plans and pilots. surveys showed farmers underutilize available information. Attendees included nine from Tazewell, 13 from Bureau, 9 from Stark, 10 from Peoria, 22 from Marshall and Putnam, plus five TAA staff. Dinner featured catfish, corn bread, sorghum served by the farm bureau kitchen.

Government official Adlai Stevenson announced that 300 cities and 89 northern Illinois counties will host civil defense observation posts as part of a nationwide radar warning network. Easter Egg Hunt Planned in Henry for Children

Plans for a community Easter egg hunt in Henry were approved by the Henry Business Men's Association. Children from Henry and nearby areas will search two parks Central Park for pre-school to fourth grade and Waterworks Park for older kids, with more than 2000 candy eggs to be hidden and prizes for all participants.

Henry High School Band Director Takes West Bureau Post

Arthur Blocher, longtime Henry High School band director, began duties Friday as band instructor at West Bureau grade and high school. He resigns from Rutland and is replaced by Mrs Blocher. He notes strong facilities for band work and other school tasks, leading a group of both grade and high school pupils.

Arnold Parker began construction of a cement block garage at the corner of Second Street and West Park Row in Henry. John Martin builds. Parker owns vacant lots facing Second Street. former Camp House site. Also under way are the Donald Bogner residence on Williams Street, a two one story house with basement, carpenter Harold Hartady. Mrs. Walter Boyie on Main Street with excavation by Brron Henry and Cliff Owens as contractor. Two more Williams Street houses, one occupied by the Russell Glover family, are nearing completion.

PTA Group Backs Henry-Senachwine High Site Vote

At a Henry PTA meeting the group unanimously supported the Henry-Senachwine board in next Tuesday's election to approve selecting and purchasing a school site and to authorize building a new high school. They offered to form a committee to mobilize voters and arrange transportation. The plan outlines tax impact, with an estimated increase of about 50 cents an acre on best land, about 80 dollars per quarter section, tied to a district expansion. The board cited low tax rates and pledged cost-conscious construction, noting a bond election will follow for final building approval.
