Hutchins residence near Civil War era to be repurposed
The former Green family home on Third Street will be converted after a fire damaged property. The plan includes a funeral parlor on the first floor with a seating room for about 200 and a display area, a second floor apartment for Mr and Mrs Green, and storage on the third floor. Mrs Ella Jenness notes her son Edwin and wife plan to visit from Indiana to discuss future plans. The house, built post Civil War by the Powell sisters, passed through several owners and is now held by the Hutchins family renowned for its solid upkeep.

Services Held Friday for Mrs Eva Wasmer
Mrs Eva Maubach Wasmer died March 14 at 7 p.m. at her daughter Carries home in Chillicothe. She was born November 21 1868 in Hopewell Township and moved to John Wasmer in 1882. She resided in Varna 46 years and is survived by four daughters, several sons, twenty supported by relatives, and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at 8 o clock at Mrs Pt Phillips home in Henry with Rev Walter Ward of the Henry Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Henry cemetery. Attending from a distance were Mrs Stoner of Chillicothe and Mr Me Ward Balensiefen of Streator.

Howard L. Doyle announces that after April 15 1939 no currency exchanges may operate in Illinois. Henry Exchange must liquidate depositors should close accounts within a week bringing passbooks and check stubs for verification. Depositors will be paid 100 percent from on hand funds. The Henry Exchange has served Henry for 48 and a half years, aiding local merchants and shoppers.

Settlement Approved In Death Of Tacon Ferry Victim
Probate Judge Charles G. Cisna of Peoria County approved a $3,925 settlement for the death of John F Springer after his outboard boat struck the Lacan ferry cable. The case against Carl Budd Neal Loran e of Lacon operators of the Deneen River Company and the city of Lacan was resolved. Springer died two days after the Aug 24 1938 incident in Peoria Methodist Hospital. He was survived by his widow Dorothy A Springer and three minor children. The award will be paid by the insurance company carrying indemnity on the ferry.

De Vore's Tavern Decorated Attractively
Ye Wayside Inn north of Putnam run by Mr and Mrs Milo DeVore is being attractively redecorated walls painted white green stippled in a light brown for the main lunch room. The work is by Mr DeVore and has earned compliments on the effect. William Drew, from near Tiskilwa, was hurt Tuesday when his car overturned near Chillicothe with facial head injuries and several broken ribs. He is recovering at his son’s home in Henry.

Mr and Mrs Eugene Clift spent three weeks touring the West in late February and early March. They drove to California via the Grand Canyon and Boulder Dam and attended the Treasure Island World’s Fair with Fritz Davis of Palo Alto. Potter Jr. Wins Personal Injury Verdict in East Peoria Crash
In Pekin court Thorne v Wagner, Fred W. Potter Jr. represented the plaintiff passenger who suffered a ruptured kidney after a Feb 19 1938 collision at Routes 24 and 150. The jury awarded 7000 dollars after the defendant failed to stop at a snow covered windshield obscured intersection, despite a prior $3600 settlement offer.

Pekin Man Dies After Route 29 Crash Near Sparland
Gerald McDonald 28 of Pekin died after a single vehicle wreck three and a half miles north of Sparland on Route 29 near the Pearson mine curve. He was injured when the light truck left the highway and rolled over after a possible steering or electrical fault. Heininger, 24, of Henry survived with minor injuries and helped bring McDonald to Henry Hospital before his transfer to St. Francis Hospital in Peoria where he died. Funeral services set at St. Joseph's Church in Pekin with burial in Pekin Cemetery.
