Hi Ball gasoline with 10 percent alcohol goes on sale
High test Hi Ball gasoline containing 10 percent anhydrous alcohol from grain was placed on sale Monday morning by 13 Illinois County Farm Bureau Oil companies within 50 miles of Peoria. The Marshall Putnam Oil company said MP stations in Henry and nearby towns would offer it in a few days as distillers supply allows others to follow.

Rollin Travis Praises Hi Ball Alcohol-Gasoline Fuel
Rollin Travis of Travis Cadillac in Peoria visited Henry and tested a 16 cylinder Cadillac using the Hi Ball alcohol gasoline mix. He said the engine started smoothly with no knocks and quick acceleration. He reported far better mileage with the new fuel, estimating over 10 miles per gallon compared with seven to eight miles on ordinary ethyl gasoline.

New Fuel Alcohol Rail Revealed At Peoria Meeting
J S Bumgarner and D R Smith announced a test launch of a fuel alcohol in Peoria describing a new industrial outlet for surplus grain and higher prices. Permits were granted by J M Doran and E C Yellowley with supervision by prohibition inspectors. Initial orders enable 15 carloads of the new gasoline sold at a three cent premium.

Last Rites Monday for Peter Toemmes
Last rites were held Monday at St Mary's Catholic Church for Peter Toemmes lifelong Henry resident who died after a long illness at the state hospital in Peoria. The Rev Fr Andrew Schauer led services with R O Green in charge. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with casket bearers Louis Toemmes Martin Green Lawrence Peterman John Fehring and David Dwyer. He was born April 8 1870 in Henry and spent most of his life in this city working as a blacksmith and for three years with the U S government at Beardstown. He was a member of St Mary's church and served as local secretary for the Western Catholic Union. He is survived by one brother Leo Toemmes and two nieces Mrs Anna Tomlinson and Mrs Mary Ryan. Attendees from distance included Russell Tomlinson and family Wenona Lawrence Ryan and family Lostant Nick Appel and family Lostant and John Appel and family Seneca.

Man Severed Thumb in Wood Chopping Accident
Francis Britton suffered a severe thumb injury Monday while chopping wood. Holding a chunk with one hand he swung the axe with the other and misjudged the stroke, leading to amputation behind the first joint. He was taken to hospital and is recovering.
