Funeral services for Jay Frederick Roth 43 naval officer and engineer who died Saturday at Deaconess hospital Milwaukee were held at Winteler parlors Peoria with naval honors at Springdale cemetery. Survived by widow Lillian Pierce Roth son Jay Frederick Roth Jr and parents John and Anna Roth. He served on the Von Steuben in World War I and was later a mechanical engineer for Allis Chalmers Milwaukee and was active in Milwaukee First Baptist Church.

She was born February 11 1848 in Winkley Devon England and moved to the United States in childhood living in and near Peoria for 52 years. She leaves a son George Thomas Garside of Essexville Wis a sister Mrs Rachel Duryea of Philadelphia Pa and three brothers William Steer of Bradyville Ia Hion Steer of Peoria and Thomas Steer of this city. She married Jas H Garside June 17 1869. he died in Peoria in 1902.

Fire destroyed the Rutherford family home at the village edge of Tiskilwa on Saturday morning. Porter Rutherford and family occupied the house with Mrs Rutherford and a baby inside when flames broke out from sparks on the roof. Henry Gorman raised the alarm as the Tiskilwa fire department fought flames with a limited water supply until exhaustion.
