Filt L Rients 66 of Toluca died at his Toluca home at 10 am Tuesday after a year long heart ailment. Born April 22 1882 in Flanagan, he married Lena Hinrich December 28 1910 at Windtown Lutheran Flanagan. Surviving wife two children Elmer and Cecilia and several sisters and brothers. He moved to Toluca from Flanagan in 1939.

Red Cross Drive To Begin This Weekend In 1948 Campaign
Fred Garrell county chairman released township quotas at the February 24 Red Cross meeting in Lacon. Supplies went to township chairmen and drive dates set for March 1965. Weather delays halted the Salvation Army drive, delaying local campaign until late in the two week period. Garrell said no township reports yet but workers will be lined up to begin this weekend. Oscar Carlstrom 69 former Illinois attorney general and longtime Republican figure died at his Aledo home after a lengthy illness. He served as attorney general from 1924 to 1928, led the United Spanish War Veterans, and held posts with the Mercer County State's attorney and Aledo city attorney. He helped settle the Henry Illinois River bridge issue and supported workers unions. He also served in the Philippines and World War I and was prominent in politics for decades.

Mrs. Ed Prather learned of the death of Geary V. Stibgen of Chicago who passed away Monday night at his home 3620 Harding Avenue Chicago. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 PM in Chicago. He is survived by his wife a daughter and a son and had hunting grounds near Prathers north of Putnam. He was born in Henry Creek area and lived there in youth.

The State highway department awarded a contract for Western Avenue from Henry to Red Town, the seven mile route including grading and bridges. Chicago’s Standard Paving Company bid 129 928 15, the lowest bid after three settings, with funding from Federal and State grants and the county motor fuel tax. A second project, Washburn road, received 80 228 10, to be let to R A Cullinan Son Company. Total project cost 220 157 25, with 71 607 25 county share. Western Avenue paving starts this Spring pending weather, and the Wenona Chestnut Street brick replacement, 52 miles, was let to George Welch Company for 96 675. Completion within 78 days.
