Marshall County Board selects location one for the north Tax School road project a 3.4 mile straighter route from Route 17 costing about 460000 with abandonment of the old road to Hopewell township survey planned spring or fall 1976 right of way in 1977 78 and construction to start 1979 80. The board also urged state DOT to replace the Camp Grove C N overpass to handle heavy trucks. Strunk Brothers Asphalt of Tiskilwa involved.

The board approved two survey plats: a 80 acre farm tract in Bennington township with farm buildings, and an extension to the LaPrairie United Presbyterian church cemetery in Lacon township. A Thursday storm swept Central Illinois with tornado warnings and heavy winds. Civil Defense sirens sounded in Marshall County towns as damage occurred near Mid County High School and at multiple farms including the Hattan, Held, Wright, Canty, Miller, Sunken properties. Numerous structures were damaged but cattle remained unharmed and power was briefly disrupted. Cleanup crews worked for hours to secure debris and restore services.

A 23 year old deckhand vanished from the lead grain barge bound for St Louis after a late night fall near Lacon. Rescue teams from Sheriff’s office Coast Guard Chillicothe and local police searched the river amid high water and storm warnings. A life jacket matching the Towboat Robin’s gear was recovered near the brickyard recreation area two miles south of Lacon and the search was suspended Monday as conditions remained perilous.
